New Canadiens Connection: Keys to Winning

For the Montreal Canadiens, getting past the Tampa Bay Lightning was one thing. Facing the Buffalo Sabres in the second round of the Stanley Cup playoffs presents a very different kind of challenge.

The Lightning brought considerable NHL experience, a structured framework, physical play, and a team that has been through deep playoff runs before. The Sabres are dangerous in a much different way. They’re big, fast, skilled, aggressive offensively, and they can create problems in a hurry if you let the game open up too much.

So, while the Canadiens may have survived one difficult matchup, this series is going to test them in different areas.

And when you look at it closely, there are a handful of things Montreal absolutely has to get right if they want to move on again. They don’t need to play a perfect series, and they probably won’t check every single box every night, but there are certain elements of their game that are going to matter a lot more against this opponent than they did in the last round.
