Jakub Dobes made 22 saves and stoned William Nylander and John Tavares in the shootout as the Montreal Canadiens beat the Toronto Maple Leafs 2-1 at Scotiabank Arena. The 24-year-old goaltender has won four of his last five starts running his record to 10-3-2 this season; his save percentage in those four wins is .930. Dobes has earned the trust of his teammates, and despite what you may have heard, has clearly been the Canadiens top goalie this season.
The hierarchy of Montreal goaltending — Sam Montembeault being the number one guy — is just one example of a narrative that was repeated over and over this season despite the fact that there was little or no evidence to support it.
This Week’s Show
This week on the Canadiens Connection podcast, we’re taking on some of the loudest talking points in Montreal and putting them to the test. No sugar-coating, no echo-chamber takes — just a simple game of True or False. We’ve pulled seven statements you’ve probably heard this season, whether it’s from the front office, behind the bench, or from headlines and social media. Some sound convincing. Some… maybe not so much.
So here’s the challenge: which of these narratives actually stand up under pressure? And which ones fall apart once you dig beneath the surface? We’ll walk through each one, talk about what the data and the eye-test tell us, and give you our final ruling. From contracts and injuries to trades and goaltending depth — if it’s shaping the Habs right now, it’s on the table on this week’s edition of the podcast.

- An injured Canadien took to the ice this week. Who was it?
- Will the Montreal Canadiens be participating in an outdoor game in 2026 or not?
