The Edmonton Oilers beat the Seattle Kraken 4-0 on Saturday. They will now have a five-game homestand to start December. Things will not begin so easily, as the Minnesota Wild (14-7-5) are in town first on Tuesday night. Taming the Wild could set a precedent for the rest of the homestand.
Following Tuesday’s game against the Wild, the Oilers will host a rematch against the Seattle Kraken on Thursday. Fans would love to see a similar result as the 4-0 win on Saturday. This coming Saturday will see the Hellebuyck-less Winnipeg Jets in town. Edmonton needs to take advantage of not having to play against Connor Hellebuyck.
The Oilers will then host two Eastern Conference teams to end their homestand. First will be the Buffalo Sabres on Tuesday, December 9th, followed by a game against the Detroit Red Wings on Thursday, December 11th. After such a slow start to their season, the Edmonton Oilers need to take advantage of their next five games on home ice.
Edmonton Oilers Must Be Better
These are critical points coming up. Edmonton is only four points back of the division lead. Going on a good run could help people forget about the slow start. Connor McDavid has six points in his last five games. Leon Draisaitl has seven points in that same span. The Oilers could use more from Zach Hyman, who has three points in his last five games.
In the net, Stuart Skinner (9-7-3) needs to be better. He needs to get his goals against average below 3.00 and his save percentage above .900 to help his team win. However, the early-season struggles are not all Skinner’s fault. The team needs to play better defensively in front of him. Skinner and the Oilers need to find a way to win these next five games on home ice before the team heads out on a five-game road trip.
