The Detroit Red Wings have won a third straight game, however this one had some extra drama involved. Detroit’s win over St Louis felt definitive, whereas the Los Angeles Kings made this game incredibly difficult to win. A strange combination of favorable calls, alongside excellent goaltending put Detroit over the top.
Marco Kasper’s power play goal went to review, and that call went in Detroit’s favor. In overtime the Kings looked to have won it, however the goal was overturned for goalie interference. Detroit’s victory had just about everything, including no small amount of luck.
Cam Talbot comes up big
The LA King outshot Detroit 10-6 to open the game, but Cam Talbot held the score at zero. The Red Wings were outshot 38-27, however Talbot stood tall with a .921 save percentage. The Red Wings have found a strong tandem in net, and it is paying off early this season.
The Kings came back with just over two minutes left, thereby carrying all the momentum into overtime. The Red Wings took a late penalty, and with 38 seconds left it looked like the game was over. The overturned goal certainly perplexed, if not infuriated the Kings and energized the Wings. Talbot was perfect in the shootout, thereby making Raymond’s opening tally stand as the winner.
Debrincat and Kasper are gaining momentum
Alex Debrincat scored his third goal in as many games, as well as added another assist for good measure. Debrincat is still consistent scoring a point per game, in doing so he’s found his goal scoring again. Debrincat’s consistency and energy have been a big part of the team’s energy in the opening stretch.
Marco Kasper added two goals, consequently his confidence is growing as well. Kasper seemed dialed in for the second tally, as he skated hard to the net to knock in a rebound. The Red Wings need those top two lines to generate in every game, and it looks like both are getting stronger. While Larkin’s line didn’t score during the game, Raymond’s shootout goal was enough to grab the win. So far, the road trip has had a fantastic 2-0-0 start.
