The St. Louis Blues are ready to make changes to their roster. It is understandable, as the Blues are having an ugly 2025-26 season. They currently have a 19-23-8 record and are at the very bottom of the Central Division standings with 46 points.
The biggest Blues player who is creating chatter in the rumor mill leading up to the 2026 NHL trade deadline is star center Robert Thomas. The 26-year-old would be a massive pickup for any team looking for a first-line center, so he should generate a ton of interest between now and the deadline.
During a recent episode of 32 Thoughts: The Podcast, Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman shared what it could take for the Blues to truly consider trading Thomas.
“What it sounds like, if the Blues really want to do this, it’s something that you make them say ‘there’s no way we can say no,'” Friedman said. “It’s either a huge package that makes them say ‘you can’t say no to this’ or the other thing I’ve heard is they’re looking for a stud top-six forward who is slightly younger than Thomas… They’re probably looking for somebody 22 to 24 years old. It’s like leasing a Toyota, you finish with one model, you trade it in for a slightly younger model.”
Thomas’ Trade Value With The Blues Is Very High
Hearing that the Blues either expect a big trade package or a proven younger star forward for Thomas is entirely understandable. With Thomas being a 26-year-old star center who is right in his prime and having multiple years left on his contract, there is no question that his trade value is incredibly high.
Furthermore, with Thomas being signed until the completion of the 2030-31 season, the Blues do not need any potential move centering around the star center. With this, the Blues have plenty of time to wait for the right offer they are looking for when it comes to Thomas.
In 42 games so far this season with the Blues, Thomas has recorded 11 goals, 22 assists, and 33 points.
