Sabres Winning Streak Snapped at Ten

The Buffalo Sabres run of consecutive victories has ended. The Sabres fell to the Columbus Blue Jackets by a 5-1 score at Nationwide Arena on Saturday afternoon.

The ten-game heater had equaled the club record for consecutive wins. Although Saturday’s loss dropped the Sabres out of the final wildcard playoff position, the winning streak allowed the Sabres to get back into the postseason race.

“We were just playing a solid team game, “ said Sabres captain Rasmus Dahlin, reflecting on the ten-game winning streak. “We played really good defense. We weren’t giving up much, and we scored when it mattered at important times of games. Our third periods were really good when we were able to shut other teams down. Now we have to find it again.

Just three weeks ago, Buffalo was at the bottom of the Eastern Conference standings. Despite the loss to the Jackets, Buffalo is just one point out of the final wildcard berth and four points out of third place in the tightly contested Atlantic Division standings. The key going forward will be how the team responds to its first loss since December 8th.

“This is when we have to see if we are a really good team,” said  Dahlin. “So just regroup and get ready for the next one.

The challenge for the group will be to not allow the Columbus contest to lead to consecutive losses.

“It has nothing to do with winning ten anymore, “ said Sabres head coach Lindy Ruff. “Now it’s about not losing two in a row, about responding to the game we just played. Going back in our building and playing a good hockey game. “

The Sabres return home to host the Vancouver Canucks on Tuesday.

Three Buffalo Sabres players were selected to play in the 2026 Winter Olympics in  Milan Italy next month.

Forward Tage Thompson will play for Team USA. Sabres team captain, defenseman Rasmus Dahlin will suit up for team Sweden and goaltender Ukko-Pekka-Luukkonen will represent team Finland.
