STG Draft Podcast: Flyers Draft Targets, Trade up from 22nd?

On the latest episode of the Snow the Goalie podcast, Anthony SanFilippo and Russ Joy give their takes on Danny Briere’s pre-Draft press conference on Tuesday. Ant discusses the players he believes the Flyers will target with the sixth overall pick of the 2025 Entry Draft. Moving down may also be a possibility for Philadelphia.

In terms of the Flyers’ later first-round selections (22nd and 31st), SanFilippo believes the team will attempt to move up. They may use some of their other assets ( the 31st pick and four second-round picks) to work on a move-up or an NHL roster deal. Note: usual co-host (and Hockey Hot Stove part-owner) Chris Therien was unavailable for the recording.

The Flyers’ blog on HHS will return tomorrow with a look at lessons Briere can learn from how the Florida Panthers (particularly under general manager Bill Zito) built the most enviable depth in the NHL. In the meantime, on Philadelphia flyers.com, I wrote an article on differing NHL Draft philosophies and where the Flyers fit in terms of how Briere and assistant general manager Brent Flahr assess candidates. I also look at some options — both oft-mentioned and less-discussed — for teams drafting in the top 10 this year.
