Day 1 of Vancouver Canucks training camp felt like drinking out of a fire hose with all the information out there. But here are some quick takeaways (I’m not in Penticton), but credit to those who are.
Karlsson with EP40
This was one of my questions going into camp. Who plays with Elias Pettersson? Turns out it’s Jake Debrusk and Linus Karlsson. Karlsson is a great story. He signed an extension halfway through last season. He has shown steady growth since he came into this organization in 2022. This will be his second full season with the Canucks.
Chytil starts at Centre
- Good to see Chytil on the ice. 2. My sense from Canucks new bench boss Manny Malhotra’s answer yesterday was centre. He was on a line with Boeser and Paul Cotter. Which means the Rossi-Boeser-Ohgren (BRO Line) is no more for now.
Vets, Youngsters Paired On Canucks D
A vet AND a youngster paired on D. Malhotra was asked about D pairings on Wednesday. He said he would not shy away from playing youngsters together. And he had Willander with DPetey. He also had the vets Filip Hronek and Jamie Oleksiak together. And veteran Luke Schenn was paired with Zeev Buium
A coach doing a bag share? In this economy???
Not only did Malhotra join. He made a statement!. According to Daily Faceoff Vancouver, Malhotra’s fitness stood out.
