The Utah Mammoth returned home to host the Buffalo Sabres at the Delta Center on Wednesday. After losing three straight and only winning once in their last six, Utah needed a win.
Things didn’t look good early in the game. Buffalo forward Isak Rosen scored the only goal in the first period to give the Sabres a 1-0 lead. He would score again early in the second period to put the Sabres up 2-0. However, after that second Sabres goal, Mammoth goaltender Karel Vejmelka shut the door. He gave his team a chance to get back into the game, and they did.
The Mammoth slowly chipped away at the Sabres. First, Nick DeSimone scored to get Utah within one. Still down 2-1 to start the third period, the home team went out and scored four more goals. JJ Peterka scored within the first minute of the third period to tie the game. A few minutes later, Peterka would assist on Lawson Crouse’s goal to give the Mammoth a 3-2 lead. Nick Schmaltz scored his tenth at the halfway point of the period to increase the lead to 4-2. Clayton Keller would put the game away with an empty net goal during the last minute of play.
Mammoth Honor The Military
Not only did the Utah Mammoth end their losing streak on Wednesday night, but they did so on an important night. Wednesday night’s game against the Sabres was Military Appreciation Night at the Delta Center. The Mammoth honored members of the US Military. They did not have a game on Veterans Day (November 11th), so they did it on the 12th. This season, the team will be making it a week-long event. Those who couldn’t attend the game on Wednesday night will have a chance to do so at the second Military Appreciation Night on November 14th against the New York Islanders.
