Jets Hangar: What Happened During Draft Weekend

The 2025 NHL Entry Draft concluded on Saturday. The Winnipeg Jets made five total selections in this year’s draft: one on Day One and four on Day Two. Although they didn’t have many picks, I believe they made the ones they had count. Let’s take a look at the Jets 2025 draft class.

Round 1, 28th: Sascha Boumedienne (D) Boston University (NCAA)

This past year, Boumedienne played top-pairing minutes on a very good Boston University team. He’s a good size defenceman that can skate. Definitely has top 4 potential. He also played really well for team Sweden at the Under-18’s tournament. Hopefully, we’ll get to see him shine
with Team Sweden at the World Juniors. This pick has the potential to be a home run selection for the Jets in a couple of years.

Round 3, 92nd: Owen Martin (C, Spokane Chiefs, WHL)

Martin is a native of Oakbank Manitoba which is a small town just outside of Winnipeg. He was a player that may have fallen in this draft due to injuries. He played a total of 59 games with Spokane this past season. He recorded 19 goals and 46 total points in these games.

Let’s see how he does when he’s fully healthy and has bigger role with the team next year.

Round 5, 156: Viktor Klingsell, (LW, Skelleftea, SHL)

Klingsell is a small forward (5’10) that produced at a point per game pace with Skelleftea’s junior squad. He also impressed at international tournaments for his age group. The trutest will come when he moves up to play with Skelleftea’s pro team. Can he continue to put up solid offensive numbers against tougher competition?

Round 6, 188: Edison Engle (D, Dubuque, USHL)

Engle is a 6’2″ blueliner who is committed to playing for the Brantford Bulldogs of the OHL next year and then for Ohio State (NCAA) in 2026-2027. In other words, he’s a couple of years away from being a couple of years away from sniffing the Jets roster.

Round 7, 220: Jacob Cloutier (RW, Saginaw, OHL)

Cloutier was the Jets final pick in the 2025 draft. At 5’10, he is a small forward. He posted 23 goals and 47 points in 67 games with the Spirit last season.

Jets sign Fleury to contract extension

In other Jets news, the team reached a two-year contract extension with free agent defenceman Hadyn Fleury for $950K annually. Fleury played really well for the Jets in the playoffs and indicated in his exit interview that he wanted to extend his stay with the Jets.

Good piece of business by Kevin Cheveldayoff to get this deal done before July 1st . Fleury earned his spot in the Jets top 6 defenceman.
