The hockey world feels different today. Everything is fine. Players are assembling in Montreal for the upcoming training camp. The NHL schedule will start on time on October 7th and fans will fill the Bell Centre for the Canadiens home opener on October 14th.
But something feels different. It’s like experiencing the aftereffects of an earthquake. Everything is a little off-kilter. You might feel shaken.
On Friday afternoon, Carey Price’s contract, along with a fifth-round pick in the 2026 NHL Draft, was traded to the San Jose Sharks in exchange for defenseman Gannon Laroque. And later that evening, the Montreal Canadiens announced the passing of six-time Stanley Cup champion, Ken Dryden.
Two extraordinary Canadiens who defined the position of goaltending for their era. Both stories rocked Montreal and echoed through the hockey community.
In the latest episode of the Canadiens Connection podcast, we reflect on the exceptional life of Ken Dryden, a key part of a hockey dynasty along with his accomplishments once he retired from the league as a player. We also honor Carey Price, the preeminent goaltender of the 2010’s with the talent, will and determination to carry the Habs almost single handedly for many years.
