Prospect Park: Rangers Week In Review

With just three New York Rangers prospects in action playing in the OHL and QMJHL; the focus was on a few individual players. This season there are only eleven prospects playing in North America and seven of them will be playing college hockey.

Defenseman Artem Gonchar (Sudbury Wolves -OHL)- The Rangers third round pick in the 2025 NHL Entry Draft, Gonchar played in three games this week going scoreless in all of them with a -5. To be fair to Gonchar he is trying to adapt to North American hockey, so he gets cut some slack for the time being.

Gonchar is still looking for his first OHL point after four games. His Wolves are struggling as well as they are off to a 0-4-1-1 start and in last place in the OHL’s Central Division.

Defenseman Evan Passmore (Barrie Colts-OHL)- Passmore was the Rangers sixth round pick in the 2025 Draft and he appeared in two games this week. He did not score and was a -1 with a fighting major to show.

He is scoreless as well as his Colts team is off to a 1-1-0-1 start in fourth place in the OHL’s Central Division.

Nathan Aspinall (Flint Firebirds-OHL)- Aspinall was a 2024 fifth round and currently he is still with the Rangers, but he is expected to be returned to the Flint Firebirds on Monday

Raoul Boilard (Shawinigan Cataractes- QMJHL)- Boilard was a fourth round pick in the 2024 draft. He was originally selected as a center but has been playing right wing in the two games he has played so far.

Boilard played in one game this week going scoreless with a -3. He too is looking for his first point on the season as his Cataractes are 1-1-0-1 good for sixth place in the QMJHL’s Western Conference.
