The Detroit Red Wings hoped for a bounce back, but instead were humiliated by the New York Islanders. The five game win streak is already forgotten, and the team is frustrated right now. The team needs to reset quickly, because they are right back in action on Saturday.
The polarized responses are intense, if not a bit bewildering. The Red Wings have a young team, however they also have a frustrated fan base. Every win brings adulations, conversely every loss brings extreme criticism and backlash. Detroit could be in for a very long season if this is going to be the case.
Marco Kasper and MBN continue to struggle
Michael Brandsegg Nygard surely, if not desperately needs his first NHL point. He remains the only player to play every game, without having registered on the scoresheet. There was hope that a road trip would help, unfortunately the frustrations have only risen for the rookie winger.
Marco Kasper is also struggling, and the center has just one goal and no assists through eight games. Coach McLellan was candid about Kasper’s performance, and it wasn’t good enough on this trip. Kasper is without Patrick Kane on his left, and that loss isn’t helping the situation right now. The team, as well as the player, need for Kasper to find his game quickly.
Dylan Larkin extends his point streak
The Red Wings were able to cash in on a power play, although it didn’t sway the momentum of the game. Dylan Larkin scored his sixth goal and 13th point. The Captain now has an eight game point streak, which is tied for his career high.
Jonatan Berggren was also able to score his first goal, although the deficit was still five against. Berggren has impressed the staff in the past two losses, indeed his play has earned some ice time. If nothing else, the team could benefit from JB gaining some confidence right now. The Red Wings need a reset, and the team will have to dig deep to find it right now.
