New York Rangers Prospect Roundup: Nov. 8

Ten New York Rangers North American Prospects saw action on Saturday. The results were mixed.

Standout Star: Brody Lamb

The senior captain of the Minnesota Golden Gopher, Brody Lamb earned first-star honors on Saturday. Minnesota defeated Notre Dame, 4-1, in Big Ten play. Lamb got his Gophers going by scoring his sixth goal of the season in the first period off a great pass from linemate Jimmie Clark.

Clark was on the forecheck when he forced a turnover and fed Lamb as he was attacking the Notre Dame net. Clark put the puck right on Lamb’s stick and Lamb fired the puck over the left shoulder for the goal and a 1-0 lead at 3:37 of the first period.

In the second period, Notre Dame tied the game on a power play goal. However, Lamb set up linemate Luke Mittlestadt for the game-winning goal at 16:17 of the period. Lamb won a puck battle along the right wall and sent the puck to the point, where Mittlestadt fired a shot and scored.

It was part of a two-point performance. He recorded four shots (tied for the team high), a plus-two rating and a roughing minor. Lamb improved to 10 points (6g, 4a) and has scored a goal in back-to-back games.

Rest of the Rangers Prospects

  • Nathan Aspinall extend his scoring streak to four games (2-4-6) with the primary assist on the game-winning goal as his Flint Firebirds defeated the Guelph Storm 6-3 in OHL play. Aspinall got the primary assist on Flint’s fourth goal as he picked up a loose puck along the right side and hit Jimmy Lombardi for the goal with a great pass.

The Flint captain was 0-1-1 on two shots as he improves to a prospect leading 8-12-20.

  • Drew Fortescue had a primary assist to help 17th-ranked Boston College defeat Vermont 5-0 in Hockey East play. Fortescue earned his assist on Jake Sonderall’s first period goal which gave Boston College a 2-0 lead. Fortescue improves to five points (2g, 3a) on the season as the Boston College Eagles swept the weekend series.
  • E. J. Emery had a primary assist as his eighth-ranked North Dakota Fighting Hawks defeated Omaha 4-1 in NCHC play. For Emery it was his first assist (2-1-3) of the season as North Dakota sweeps the two game series and now have a three game winning streak.
  • Ty Henricks had a goal in a losing effort as his fourth-ranked Western Michigan Broncos lost to 11th-ranked Denver 6-3 in NCHC play. With Western Michigan on a power play, Henricks deflected a point shot into the Denver goal for his third goal on the season. He has seven points (3g, 4a) on the season.
  • Sean Barnhill had a secondary assist as his top-ranked Michigan State Spartans defeated third-ranked Penn State 5-0 in Big Ten play. Barnhill earned his assist on an empty net goal in the third as Michigan State earned a sweep of the weekend series. The freshman defenseman, Barnhill earned his second point of the season 0g, 2a) as his team won its seventh straight game.
  • Evan Passmore was scoreless as his Barrie Colts lost to the Soo Greyhounds via the shootout 4-3 in OHL play. Passmore did not record a stat in this game.
  • Raoul Boilard was scoreless. His Shawinigan Cataractes defeated the Rouyn-Noranda Huskies 7-3 in QMJHL play. Boilard was credited with one shot and was 4-for-8 on faceoffs.
  • Malcolm Spence was scoreless as his second-ranked Michigan Wolverines dropped a 6-1 decision to Wisconsin in Big Ten play. Spence was credited with two shots and was a -1.
  • Rasmus Larsson (undisclosed was not in the Robert Morris lineup on Saturday. It’s unclear if he was a healthy scratch or got re-injured.
