Red Wings Rise Up in Stunning 5–4 Win

The Detroit Red Wings were looking for revenge after a shootout loss in Boston. Fortunately, the scoring drought ended just in time to see them win 5-4 against the Bruins. Consequently, the team is back into a wild card spot in the Atlantic Division.

Detroit’s win was impressive, however the game was closer than it needed to be. The Red Wings still struggle with costly lapses, yet overall the win showed a lot of promise. In addition to the boost in the standings, the Red Wings saw contributions across the lineup.

Moritz Seider scored a goal and had two assists on the night. Additionally, defenseman Ben Chiarot also scored for Detroit in the win. The defense was challenged by coach Todd McLellan to do more offensively, and both players have stepped up. In particular, Seider now has 11 points in his last 10 games.

Post game updates

The win was badly needed, but the coach still pointed out several concerns. Michael Rasmussen left the game and didn’t return. He has been playing some of his best hockey lately, so losing him now could create problems. The big question is whether he’ll be ready for the next game.

Mason Appleton’s status was updated, ruling him out for seven to ten days. Detroit relies on both players for key defensive minutes, so others will need to elevate their two-way play. As the team begins a lengthy road trip, the front office must decide quickly whether to call someone up.

Detroit’s long road ahead

With the losing streak growing, the Red Wings need to stack wins quickly. The challenge: six road games in ten days. Detroit will jump across three different time zones during that stretch, creating a brutal travel schedule. It’s a demanding run, but one the team has to attack and adapt to.

Only one of Detroit’s next six opponents sits in a playoff spot, but that stat can be deceptive. The standings are razor-tight, and Detroit can’t afford to take a single game lightly. The Red Wings must attack each matchup as a make-or-break chance to push themselves into the postseason.

Interestingly, two of Detroit’s upcoming opponents feature potential trade targets. Calgary and Vancouver reportedly have players on the table, but both teams are demanding steep returns. Still, if the right player becomes available, GM Steve Yzerman will jump into those negotiations.

    Hi again,

nice and complete report to read indeed, thanks. The problem with the injured is that it is going to damage the griffins, somehow. Who will come to the big team ?
I’m following Wallstedt a little and, though Cossa is doing very well, is he going to be as good ? Wallstedt said the team was playing well, and I think he’s right, a goalie cannot do everything, at least for the long season (he can win some games by himself sometimes though). The Griffins are probably playing well too in front of Cossa. Hockey is a team game, and Detroit has to get better in front of its goalies.

    Good day, Jeremy and fans!!

The W vs BOS was ok, but there are cracks showing in this team; Defense is a sieve, we lack speed, and our G is abysmal. YES, it’s nice to have the win, cannot argue that (really nice to see 2 Bruins sent off as well….), but watching the final 1/2 of the 3d period worried that we can’t shut it down isn’t sustainable. Something has to give.

LOTS of chatter about Hughes, some of it says we’re in the mix, but at what cost? Seeing offers such as a 1st, high-end current roster player, and high-end prospect. Some have stated the discussion would begin with ASP and end w/MBN. What’s the price to pay? We cannot continue the rebuild/complete it with what we have in the pipeline. Cossa will probably be called up this year, and he may well stay. That will help, but it won’t if our D continues to give out free passes to the net.

Some are going to flip their lids on this, but I’d offer that ASP may be the price to pay for a Superstar player this team is in such desperate need of. We can’t even remotely out-score our shoddy defense and have to score 4 to win each game – that’s just not a sustainable model for SCF eligibility. Frankly, Hughes makes this team exponentially better, if not a viable SCPO-bound club.

How long do we wait, and exactly who are we willing to give up to take the next step? If not Hughes, who else do we go after that raises the bar and makes this a viable SCPO-bound club?
