New Canadiens Connection: 5 Tough Issues

Cole Caufield provided the offense but the Montreal Canadiens couldn’t hold a third period lead losing 4-3 to the Boston Bruins on Saturday night. Caufield extended his scoring streak to five consecutive games by recording his second career hat trick. The Bruins scored twice in a 12-second span in the final frame to defeat their historic rivals.

Post-game, Habs fans were critical of Canadiens goaltender Sam Montembeault. The 29-year-old goaltender’s struggles for the first two months of the season are well-documented. It was hoped that a conditioning stint in Laval for two games in December could set his game back on track but that clearly hasn’t been the case.

Despite his consistent sub-par performances, head coach Marty St. Louis has gone back to Montembeault time and time again. The former waiver pickup has started three of the Canadiens last four contests giving up a total of 13 goals.
