Sabres: Dramatic Rally Forces a Game Seven

The Buffalo Sabres 2026 postseason run continues. Buffalo was facing elimination heading into game six of their Eastern Conference semifinal series with the Montreal Canadiens at the Bell Centre on Saturday night and came away with a dramatic 8-3 come from behind triumph.

The Sabres overcame adversity early. After jumping out to an early 1-0 lead, goaltender Alex Lyon surrendered three goals on just four shots faced and exited the game half way through the first period.

Trailing 3-1, Ukko-Pekka-Luukkonen entered the crease and Buffalo controlled the game from that point on as the Canadiens surrendered the early two goal lead, and Buffalo went on to score seven unanswered goals, chasing Montreal netminder Jakub Dobes after the sixth Sabres tally of the night.

The Sabres, who have been road warriors for much of the season upped their postseason road record to 5-1 in securing the win.

With their backs against the wall the Sabres had their strongest performance of the series to date to keep their storybook season alive.

Jack Quinn found the back of the net with his first two goals of the postseason and defensemen Zack Metsa scored his first ever Stanley Cup Playoff goal in his first NHL postseason appearance.

Sabres power play clicks

The much-maligned Sabres power play led the way with a four goal performance.

The critical road playoff rally was one for the record books.

On this night the Sabres got the strong performances they needed from top players at the point in the series when they needed them most.

Tage Thompson rose to the occasion with a goal and three assists and captain Rasmus Dahlin tied a Sabres franchise record with five points in a playoff game.

The eight goal outburst is the highest road goal total in Buffalo Sabres playoff history.

“Very proud of our guys, “ said Sabres head coach Lindy Ruff. “We talked this morning about everybody needs to play their best game. Regular season doesn’t mean anything and the Boston series doesn’t mean anything and the five games to this point really don’t mean anything. Our defining moment is this game tonight that we have to play our best game. “

The resounding Sabres win sets up a deciding game seven in the series on Monday night in Buffalo.
