The Edmonton Oilers added stability to their blueline on Sunday, signing defensemen Shakir Mukhamadullin and Spencer Stastney to new contracts.
Mukhamadullin agreed to a two-year extension carrying an average annual value (AAV) of $1.75 million, while Stastney signed a one-year deal worth $1.525 million AAV.
The 24-year-old Mukhamadullin arrived in Edmonton on July 1 as part of the Darnell Nurse trade with the San Jose Sharks. The 6’4, 200-pound left-shot defenseman played 50 games for San Jose last season, averaging 17:09 of ice time while setting career highs with five goals and seven assists for 12 points. He also finished with 63 blocked shots, 35 hits, seven takeaways, and played 70:02 minutes on the penalty kill.
Originally selected by the New Jersey Devils in the first round of the 2020 NHL Draft, the Ufa, Russia native has appeared in 83 NHL games over parts of three seasons with the Sharks. During that time, he has registered seven goals and 15 assists for 22 points. He was averaging 17:37 minutes per game. His new contract will leave him as a restricted free agent (RFA) with arbitration rights when the deal expires.
Oilers Lock Up Stastney
Stastney, 26, was acquired from the Nashville Predators on December 12th, 2025, in exchange for a 2027 third-round draft pick. He played 30 games with the Predators before joining Edmonton, collecting one goal and eight assists.
After making his Oilers debut the following night in Toronto, he appeared in 36 games for Edmonton, scoring one goal while averaging 16:02 minutes of ice time. He finished the 2025-26 season with career highs of 66 games and 10 points (two goals, eight assists).
The University of Notre Dame graduate has played 117 NHL games. He registered four goals and 15 assists while averaging 15:52 minutes per game. He has also accumulated 125 blocked shots, 31 takeaways and 171:44 of penalty-killing time. His one-year contract will make him an unrestricted free agent at the end of the 2026-27 season.
