ParticipantShould have drafted Lawrence.
I know there’s not much to talk about, but, Canucks fans are so fickle. I guess losing for half a century will do that to you. Olli Juolevi had a strong 2016 World Junior Championship where he tied for the tournament lead in assists among defensemen and won gold with Finland. That small windowed performance boosted his stock, and lead to the Vancouver Canucks to select him fifth overall based on their need for a high-end puck-moving defenseman. We all know how that story ended up. These kids just turned 18 years old, they’re all good young players but they need time to grow and develop, patience.
Olli Juolevi & Jake Virtanen were busts plain and simple, clearly the Canucks didn’t do their homework on either. Juolevi boasted he was the smartest player in the draft, great go work for SpaceX then. Virtanen was an entitled lazy flake, similar to EP40 it appears. Neither of these guys were willing to put in the work required to be a pro. CM & Cootes appear to have strong character and commitment, which the Canucks should have been looking for a decade+ ago.

ParticipantJoseph had a poor showing in the H/G Cup. Looked slow and unaware most of the time.
Lots of buzz about the Swiss center Jonah Neuenschwander. 6’3″ good hands and 2 way game. 6 points in 4 games.
The rankings will start popping up soon. Daily Faceoff already have their first out.

ParticipantI think Cootes got a own goal on USA’s 2nd tally. Looked like his stick blade was between the puck and the stick blade of the USA player when it was pushed in.
I think Cole Reschny and Lawrence were the 2 best C’s for Canada.

ParticipantJust watched the highlight reel. Verhoeff played like dogshit. Seems like anyone that he was supposed to cover just simply steps away from him and is wide open for a pass. His skating looked pretty bad as well.
Speaking of skating… see Malholtra trying to catch up to the player that got away from him on that breakaway? I said it before, it’s been well exaggerated how good his speed is. There’s a couple of videos out there that are outside the group thinkers and give a honest assessment. His reputation for skating and defensive side of the game are above where his game actually is. People need to pump the breaks a bit. Yes he was picked #3… but don’t hate him if he doesnt live up to that.
Don’t tell me who I can’t hate.

ParticipantJeff Merek just said yesterday Him and Cootes are looking great on Team Canada. I think most fans are only expecting a 2/3 C
No points as far as I know. Outplayed by other C’s like Lawrence who is younger than Caleb and Cootes and drafted later than Caleb… They got annihilated today against USA. There’s a lot of hype for these guys based on “leadership” glue etc… Tunnel vision.
Canada sure has gone downhill in international hockey.

ParticipantThis market will eat him alive if he doesnt live up to the inflated expectations they put on the Canucks prospects. It will be all Caleb’s fault for tricking them.
I’m already seeing the expectations getting ahead of him. Going to be the #1 for BU. Going to be the #1 for team Canada. Easy now folks. This will be a season of adjustments for the kid.

ParticipantShould have drafted Lawrence.
I said it a number of times, Malholtra may be the 3rd best C in this draft after Bjork and Lawrence. Trust in the scouts? No. They have not earned it because its the same failtards as before. They can definitely earn my trust with this recent draft… or completely trigger me into rage…. lol. Time will tell. I do have a better feeling about this draft than the last few but picking high, multiple 1st and 2nds will fill anyone with optimism.
Imo scouting picked for an all around game & project CM’s growth trajectory to continue. I stated to pick a D or trade down. I doubt many top 6-8 teams had CM as a target & why it didn’t happen or scouts were fixated on CM. Lawrence injury & slow start in the NCAA could be why he dropped & teams went with the safer pick. It will all come down to CM proving he’s at least an elite 2C or better. He should try to be in the Bergeron category type. All situations & top leader. He’s got some big expectations on him.
