Utah Mammoth general manager Bill Armstrong announced Monday that Maveric Lamoureux underwent successful surgery to repair a dislocated shoulder. The 22-year-old is expected to be out for four to six months.
That timeline would put Lamoureux’s return around late January at the earliest. Assuming his recovery continues to progress without any setbacks. While getting him back on the ice before the final stretch of the season would be significant for the Mammoth. However, the calendar becomes an important factor. If the recovery pushes toward the back end of that window, Lamoureux could find himself with only a handful of regular-season games remaining once he’s finally cleared to return.
That would leave very little runway to shake off the rust, regain his timing, and get back up to full speed before the games take on even greater importance. For a player coming off an extended absence, those final weeks could become less about easing back into the lineup and more about trying to quickly find his game with the postseason approaching.
Word came shortly before the Mammoth released their opening-night roster. Lamoureux was listed separately at the bottom of the graphic, starting the season on injured reserve with an upper-body injury.
It’s a tough break for a player who was making a strong push for a full-time NHL job. The 6’6 right-shot defenseman was selected 29th overall by the Arizona Coyotes in the 2022 NHL Draft, making him the franchise’s third first-round pick that year, following Logan Cooley and Conor Geekie.
Mammoth Have High Hopes for Lamoureux
Lamoureux has split the past two seasons between Utah and the AHL’s Tucson Roadrunners. He played 15 NHL games in 2024-25 and five more last season, giving him four points (one goal, three assists) and 44 penalty minutes in 20 career games. Most of 2025-26 was spent in Tucson, where the Laval, Quebec, native put up five goals and 20 points in 65 games.
Even when he is healthy, cracking this Mammoth lineup isn’t going to be easy. The Mammoth came into camp with big expectations for 2026-27, and they open with John Marino, Mikhail Sergachev, MacKenzie Weegar, Nate Schmidt, Andrew Peeke, Dmitri Simashev, and Nick DeSimone on defense.
The Mammoth will host the Chicago Blackhawks on Thursday to open the season. Lamoureux won’t be in the lineup until sometime in 2027.
