The Winnipeg Jets are now winless in eight games. Even worse, six of the losses have come in regulation. On Friday night, the Jets sustained a 5-2 loss at the hands of the Florida Panthers.

New Winnipeg goaltender Nico Daws made his first start on Friday. He stopped 33 of 37 shots on the night. The final one was an empty netter. The team has now gone 0-6-2 since a 4-1-1 start.

The Jets return to action on Sunday afternoon in Raleigh against the Carolina Hurricanes.

Is Jets coach Arniel in imminent danger

During this losing streak, the noise out of Winnipeg is starting to get louder for the Jets management to cut ties with head coach Scott Arniel.

Arniel’s contract expires at season’s end. Jets general manager Kevin Cheveldayoff may have been wise not to extend Arniel’s contact prior to the start of this season. Since Arniel led the Jets to the Presidents Trophy in the 2024-2025 season, the Jets have been in freefall.

Connor stays hot

In the midst their losing streak, Kyle Connor is still doing his part for the Jets. He has now scored 11 goals through 14 games.

Entering the weekend, Connor ranked third in league scoring behind only Kirill Kaprisov (14) and Leon Draisaitl (12). If Connor can stay healthy, we may witness the first 50 goal season of any Jets 2.0 player.

It would be one bright spot in what is otherwise shaping up to be another lost season. Coming into the season, Connors previous season high was 47 goals in the 2021-2022 season.

Mercer starts to click

After going pointless in his first two games with the Jets, Dawson Mercer has now quietly put back to back assists in as many games.

With Connor Hellebuyck winning his first two games decisively as the New Jersey Devils goaltender, it is imperative that Mercer puts up some statistics to make the long awaited Hellebuyck trade look decent from an optics perspective. Mercer will also be an RFA at seasons end. With a solid first season with his new team, he will earn himself a nice contract extension.

Relentless schedule continues for the Jets

After opening their four-game road trip with back to back losses in the state of Florida, the Jets daunting road trip continues Sunday afternoon when they visit Nikolaj Ehlers and the defending Stanley Cup Champions in Carolina.

If the Jets finish the road trip 0-4, one would have to wonder if we may see some drastic changes in the Jets line-up and behind the bench. In the spirit of Halloween, we are in the midst of spooky times in Winnipeg.
