Final preparations are underway for the start of the 2025-’26 season with the Montreal Canadiens roster is set. On Sunday, the final cuts from training camp were sent to Laval on Sunday with two other players placed on waivers.
Looking back, as the team approached opening night last year, expectations were low. Fans believed that their young team would be fun to watch while management set a lofty goal of ‘being in the mix.’
After a surprise, albeit brief, visit to the 2024-25 Stanley Cup playoffs, expectations for this year’s squad have taken a major bump. A second straight appearance in the playoffs is seen as a minimum acceptable achievement by the majority of the fanbase. With the team improving their talent level in the offseason but getting younger, that expectation could prove to be a challenge.
