Canucks: Frustration Mounts at Crossroads

You can understand if a bit of frustration coming in  for Manny Malhotra, and the Vancouver Canucks right now. They went 0-6-1 in their last road trip. This leads to a 2-7-1 record for the Canucks. However, for Head Coach Manny Malhotra, there are still non-negotiables.

A specific goal would have been the fourth Tamps goal Saturday . The Canucks win the face-off. But Lightning Pontus Holmberg beats two Canucks players to the puck and scored the clinching 4-2 goal for the Canucks.

The Lightning were down 2-0 early in the second. But Nikita Kucherov scored two goals.Jake Guentzel and Holnberg scored inn the two.

Separating the men and the boys

This is likely one of the biggest differences between the Lightning and the Canucks. The Lightning, under the longest-tenured coach in the NHL, have an established system in place that has lead to success. Conversely, Malhotra still must share and teach team identity staples 10 games into the season.

The Canucks have an understandable reason to be frustrated. But as Linus Karlsson aid, you have to move forward.

Karlsson did have the first goal for the Canucks. He wasn’t bad. 16:49 A goal, three shots. He did end up playing with EP40 and Debrusk in the third period.

It was also a good game for Filip Chytil. 20:31. One assist. One block. One hit. Looks like he is playing with one foot forward. Malhotra doesn’t have a problem playing him. He played the wing with Drew O’Connor and Brock Boeser. He also centred a line wth Boeser and Paul Cotter.  The O’Connor line out shot the Lightning 8-2.

But perhaps the biggest bright spot was Kevin Lankinen. By far his best game of the season. The Canucks were outshot  35-14.  Including this first period save that allowed the Canucks took a 1-0 lead.  Lankinen made six high danger saves. Definitely a good sign.

Ultimately, the Canucks couldn’t take advantage of Lightning backup goalie Dennis Hlldeby.Who was fighting the puck in the first. But when you only get 14 shots on goal, it’s hard to win.

The Canucks are back at home this week. It will be emotional. Carolina on Tuesday where they will honour the late John Garrett. Detroit on Thursday.  And Quinn Hughes plays his return game on Sunday. The Wild come to town.

Hat Trick for Novotny

Another great weekend for Adam Novotny. A hat trick, two assists.Involved in 5 of the Peterbrough Petes.Petes won 6-0 over the Barrie Colts.

Abbotsford Canucks Home Opener Weekend

It was a great weekend for the Abbotsford Canucks. Starting on Saturday, where they beat Coachella Valley Firebirds 7-3. This includes a franchise record five goals in the second period. Sunday’s game was a little more intense. They got off to a 3-0 lead.Bit the Firebirds fought back to take this game to a shootout. But the Abby Canucks pulled out a 5-4 win. The Canucks got two goals from Trey-Fix-Wolamsky. Jacob Quinlan, who they got in the Aatu Raty trade, scored his first goal with the Abbotsford Canucks. And veteran Kole Lind got his 200th assist. Abbotsford are 3-2 to start the season.

Brandon Buhr, the other player acquired in the Raty trade from the Maple Leafs, was sent down to Kalamazoo Wings  of the ECHL
