Rick Tocchet’s Philadelphia Flyers (0-1-2) are in the Sunshine State on Monday to take on Jon Cooper’s Tampa Bay Lightning (1-1-0).
On Saturday against Carolina, the Flyers received another outstanding goaltender performance from Joseph Woll. Philadelphia gained one point — and held a 2-1 lead entering the third period — despite a heavy puck possession disadvantage for the third straight game.
Ultimately, two goals and an assist from Sebastian Aho paced the Hurricanes to a 3-2 overtime win. Owen Tippett and Matvei Michkov scored their respective first goals of the 2026-27 season.
Tampa Bay enters this game coming off a solid 3-1 home win against the Washington Capitals on Saturday. Jake Guentzel led the way offensively with a goal and two assists. Andrei Vasilievskii stopped 20 of 21 shots.
Making his Flyers debut, Woll stole one point. He finished with 41 saves on 44 shots. Jake Allen got the win for New Jersey with 23 saves on 25 shots.

Flyers Daily: Monday with Meltzer
On Monday’s edition of Flyers Daily, Jason Myrtetus and I dissect the many issues that have translated to the team’s ugly 0-1-2 start. Joseph Woll stole two points in the second and third games of the season. Beyond that, there’s a myriad of things that need to be addressed.

Phantoms Files
Jon Snowden’s Lehigh Valley Phantoms suffered a 5-2 opening night home loss to the Hartford Wolf Pack at PPL Center on Saturday. The Phantoms got off to a strong start but could not sustain the momentum. Jacob Gaucher scored both of the Phantoms’ goals as they temporarily built a 2-1 lead.
Gaucher’s first tally at 5:28 of the opeming period came off a power play rebound. Ilya Pautov assisted for his point in North America. Jack Studnicka had the other assist. Later, defenseman Spencer Gill (first pro point) set up Gaucher’s second goal at 1:39 of the second period. Jett Luchanko recorded his first point of the season, making the initial play.
The Phantoms had the better of the play for 40 minutes. However, the tide turned in the final stanza. Lehigh Valley paid the price for faulty puck management and did not get crucial saves from Aleksei Kolosov.
“I thought through two periods, I thought we did a lot of we controlled a lot of the play, had a lot of chances,” head coach John Snowden said.
“If we make good on them, we probably have a different story right now. That’s going to come. I just thought the third period, we got on the wrong side of the puck. A couple careless turnovers and dangerous ice. You know, those are things that early in the season, you’re going to see those types of things.”
The Lehigh Valley Phantoms return to action next weekend with a pair of games at PPL Center against Cleveland Monsters on Saturday, October 10 at 7:05 p.m. and Sunday, October 11 at 1:05 p.m. ET.

Flyers Mourn Pierre Plante and Jerome Mrazek
In recent months, the Flyers lost two members of the Flyers Alumni family: forward Pierre Plane and goaltender Jerome Mrazek.
Plante, 75, passed away on Sept. 27, 2026. He was the Flyers’ first round pick in the 1971 NHL Amateur Draft. Flyers coach Vic Stasiuk was not enamored of the skilled forward, and played him sparingly. On Dec. 14, 1972, the Flyers traded Plante and Brent Hughes to the St. Louis Blues for Andre “Moose” Dupont. Plante ultimately played 599 games in the NHL.
Mrazek, 74, passed away back on Feb. 11, 2026. Nicknamed “Moses” for his heavy beard and mustache, the former University of Minnesota-Duluth netminder mostly played in the Flyers’ farm system. He appeared in one NHL game during the 1975-76 when the Flyers had to deal with injuries in goal.
