Carter Hart Acquitted in sexual assist case

Former Flyers goaltender Carter Hart has been acquitted of a one-count sexual assault charge.Thursday by Justice Maria Carroccia. Justice Carrocia stated that prospectors had not met their burden of proof beyond a reasonable doubt.

Carrocia added, “I conclude that the Crown cannot meet its onus on any of the counts before me.”

Hart was one of five Team Canada players from the 2018 World Junior Championship team charged in the case. The others were Dillon Dube, Cal Foote, Michael McLeod and Alex Formenton. The charged stemmed from a July 2018 incident in a London, Ontario, hotel room. Hart , who was 19 at the time of the incident, and the others were accused of assaulting “E.M.”

The criminal proceedings were fraught with setbacks. Attorneys made opening statements on April 22. All five defendants entered not guilty pleas. On April 28, Justice Carroccia declared a mistrial and dismissed the jury.

Meanwhile, the attorney paneled a new jury. On May 16, Justice Carrocia declared a second mistrial. She ruled that she would hear the case herself and issue a verdict. The case was stayed until June 13.

Thursday’s verdict brought the extremely protracted, seven-year process to an end. All five players are suspended by the National Hockey League are none are under contract with any team in the NHL.

Hart took a leave of absence from the Flyers in 2024. After the season, he was a restricted free agent. The Flyers elected not to tender him a qualifying offer, and he became an unrestricted free agent.

  1. I’m happy to have come across this site after catching Bundy on the internet. Carter Hart has been acquitted just as I felt he should have been from the get go. A sham trial. Carter Hart if he’d even want to come back to the Organization that didn’t stand up for him , should be brought back . If anything the Flyers owe him an apology as does the NHL. Hockey Canada failed that team . There I could go on but at the end of the day the Judge didn’t succumb to Me2 failed woke Ottawa policies that haunt Canada . Trial never should have happened . Carter Hart was hailed as a generational goalie and I believe he can and will one day be the backbone of a Stanley Cup Champion team. Don’t let a little noise distract the Organization. You bumbled away Bob don’t let the NHL’s bungle get a free pass. The NHLPA will have Carters back so should the Flyers . As for the few fans that are more interested in DEI nonsense at a hockey game I say get over it . Now put the Kate Smith statue back up and end the curse.
