Refs gave the Oilers that game on a silver platter but Montreal needed to at least find a way to get a point there imho.

Refs are not something they can control, and something that pretty much evens out thought-out the season.

Seems like a weak excuse to me, but the refs did not give up a 2 goal lead twice last night.

that was kind of my point, the numbers are inflated (or deflated, depending on how you look at it) with a game like last night since the opposing team was more aggressive and scored goals with fewer shots than on the night before.

but at this point I don’t think it’s worth even talking about it, you clearly aren’t a fan of Monty and never will be, and that’s fine.

    Last 3 games.

    EDM Loss 29 shots / 23 saves / 6 goals against / .793 save % – Gave up 2 goal lead (Trice)
    NYR Loss 22 shots / 18 saves / 4 goals against / .818 save % – Gave up 2 goal lead
    SEA Win 22 shots / 18 saves / 4 goals against / .818 save % – gave up the lead 3 times

    Not just last night.

Look at what Wolfe did against the Habs – Habs clearly a superior team, that guy kept them in it all night.

Monty does not have to win every game, he just has to give his team a chance to win every time…. his number suggest he is not even close to doing that this year.

As I have said, he is a middle-of-the-pack goalie, not someone who will win it when it counts.

meh, he does have a slow start to the season, but he’ll be fine.

you say you consider him as an average goalie yet you talk about him like they made the playoffs last year despite having him in net for a majority of games.

I’m not saying Monty is among the most elite goalies of the league, but I find you definitely have a bias against him, it is what it is.

He just lets in a lot of bad goals, gives up lots of leads, and is really inconsistent (game to game and throughout the season).

When he is on, he delivers. 100%

But for most of last year, he was not that great.

Last year he has a hot December and April, somewhat OK/Average Feb and March (not good numbers, but won more than lost), and terrible Oct / Nov / Jan.

You just never know what you are gonna get when he starts a game.

Now is all this 100% on him? No, of course not.

Bottom line, if you had to win a game, is he the goalie you want?

    Unlikely.

Monty played 62 games last season.

only 2 goalies played more games than that, Hellebuyck and Vasilevskiy.

his team made the playoffs, and he was a big reason behind that.

    bygones I guess

I am sure you can keep making up excuses… but the numbers and the stats show differently.

He is average and extremely inconsistent.

Like I said, you never know what you are gonna get when he plays.

Not a goalie you can depend on to have a good game.

That is all I am saying.

yeah, I find this perfectly illustrates the issue here, you’re contradicting yourself.

he wouldn’t be a decent/average NHL goalie if he was so extremely inconsistent as you’re saying.

we won’t agree on this, it’s fine 👍

    Where am I wrong?

    Look at the splits:

Other than a hot December and the last few weeks of the season, you can generally state he was maybe average (but the save % number would state otherwise).

He is not a great goalie.

Also, when insults are your only response, you just cannot come up with any valid response to show otherwise.

I said he is an average goalie because he is inconsistent.

His performances / number clearly show he is inconsistent and often below average.

Not a hard concept to understand.

last season if not for him Habs don’t make the playoffs. as simple as that, like it or not.
only 4 goalies were better than him regarding goals saved above expected. WPG, TB, WASh and TOR. Monty was 5th.
not sure how you can say stats show differently.

again, is he an average goalie, or is he not?
