meh, yeah. that would be as far as I would go I guess

pretty cool how Caufield’s contract is built, he has a 15-team NTC for 2028-29, a 10-team NTC for 29-30, and a 5-team NTC for 30-31.

    a 10 or 15 team no-trade list is the way to go…

yes, it’s also a way to lower the cap. we’ll give less money but we’ll throw in a NMC…
I still don’t like it and would do without.

it’s a leverage given to the player so that he gets to have control over where he plays

yeah, giving them out like candy is definitely a bad idea, but for certain players I understand why teams would do that

not even. you’re fucked. let say a player with a NMC changes is mind and wants to be traded, we saw that often. GMS have no options, they trade the guy.
but that doesn’t work the other way around!!
if you never give NMC… it’s pretty simple. we’re happy, we keep you, we’re not happy we trade you. and the same thing for the player, he can ask for a trade whenever he wants. fair deal for both sides.

it’s a leverage given to the player so that he gets to have control over where he plays, for a special talent it’s a pretty standard thing. most NMCs don’t end up in this fucked up situation you’re alluding to.

in Marner’s case they even had time during his contract to trade him before the NMC kicked in, and they decided to stay put, wtf.

I would never as a gm give a NMC. never. nothing good can come of it.

the way you’re putting it is that players shouldn’t take advantage of their NMC, which was provided to them by the GM when they signed their contract.

you’re right, GMs are at fault 100%.

    like Marner did?

Toronto was poor asset management due to how the team was built and their stubbornness to stick with the core four, that situation could’ve been avoided had they delt with it earlier.

I’m pretty sure he’s going to waive his NMC if he doesn’t want to play there lol…

    like Marner did?
