What about Pettersson? After he had a down year last year Vancouver might be regretting the 11 plus mil contract they gave him. Any chance we could get him at a discount if we did something like the Nurse trade and took on the full Salary? We might get him for very little that way.The only issue I see is the Pettersson/Tocchet baggage. But Tocc is a grown man and hopefully will green light understanding this is one of only a few chances to get a legit #1 center without giving away the farm.

I know you will. Even a midwit hockey fan could have said, “what about the Caps?” and you’d have hit your quota for being right for the season. They did improve, BUF got worse. Most teams are what you claim the Flyers to be: Unable to commit to a serious rebuild, holes down the middle and on D, shuffling deck chairs on the Titanic.

I’m glad the deal fell through. All I could see was that contract handcuffing the team for the next 5 years. It took almost a decade to get out from under all the bad contracts this team had.
That’s how Danny structured the deal: Take this year’s entire cap increase plus all the dead cap money (Hayes-Atkinson) that’s now available and throw it at Carlsson. I have no problem letting the current group, with a couple tweaks, keep going. 1C and 1D are wants at this stage.

Getting Carlsson would have been nice. Signing Zegras and Drysdale should be the main focus of Danny B. Evaluation of Michkov’s throughout this season to determine a bridge contract or long-term contract extension for him. How will Jett Luchanko progress in the AHL and eventually the NHL during the upcoming year. At the trade deadline, Danny should look to improve the roster.

Also, how many times have we signed a big player and by the end of season 2 they are on the 4th line or a healthy scratch? When we resigned JVR, everyone said “the Flyers are making a splash”, he didn’t even make it a full season before he was on the 4th line. Hayes played great his first season then we see where that went. Honest question, was Briere himself the last big free agent that was worth the paycheck? I guarantee I’m wrong, but nothing is jumping off the top of my head.
