ParticipantI literally said that it’s ok to trade or sign the rest of your defense if needed if you have the cornerstones and you went and listed trades and UFAs that were acquired? ummmm .. so thanks for proving my point?
Another aspect that we haven’t talked about is you have to be smart on who these waivers and traded players are that you select. You can’t be trading for or signing Risto or TDA players unless their cap hit and performance are right for your team. Like TDA at $1 mill was a good play for the Hurricanes because he was cheap and Slavin covered up his deficiencies. He was a bad fit for the Flyers because they paid him more than his on ice value, plus traded picks, plus not having a Slavin to help him out. So a team has to good talent evaluators to evaluate what they have, what they need, and what they should spend to acquire them. The Flyers absolutely have none of the above.
What’s the 4 nations have to do with anything? I’m talking Stanley Cup and you are talking about the All-star game replacement? lol. Entertaining hockey and good for Sanheim but it doesn’t go beyond that. Both Bouchard and Ekblad are better than Sanheim but they picked who they thought would make the best team, not necessarily the best talent and their reasons are their own.
Ekblad is a very good all-around defenseman. Bouchard is a very good offensive defenseman. Four Nations was a tournament and the teams were picked by the top hockey guys from the included countries. But I guess they weren’t “good talent evaluators.” You can laugh all you want. All Star game replacement? Now, that’s funny. What does Tony DeAngelo have to do with where the Flyers are at today? He hasn’t played here in three years. Fletcher brought him in. Fletcher, like Torts, is gone.

I never said that they weren’t good talent evaluators. I said their job was to put together what they thought was the best team for the tournament so factors other than just raw talent are in play. There’s only one puck. Maybe they had enough high end offensive defensemen and needed more defensively oriented defensemen. Right shot/Left shot, etc. The same things everyone talks about the Flyers needing up and down the lineup, a good blend that complements each other.
The All-Star Weekend, which took a hiatus in favor of 4 Nations this year, will return at the New York Islanders’ UBS Arena next February. That will serve as a bon voyage event ahead of the 2026 Winter Olympics in Italy, which mark the return of NHL players for the first time since 2014.
It was a one off tournament, which may never happen again, that replaced the all-star game. It was great, exciting and really promoted the game, but ultimately meaningless warmup to the Olympics. In soccer it would be called a “friendly” tournament.
TDA was an example at how poor the Flyers are at evaluating and making decisions regarding players. If you think the current Flyers brass, which included DB, is under appreciated for the moves they make you can certainly attempt to make that case but you’d be wrong. While Fletcher may be gone players such as Drysdale and Risto that he and to a lesser extent DB acquired still remain. Fletch was not a man who went rogue. Players were only acquired if everyone was on board because he was the ultimate collaborator. If you think they have a better process and results now, feel free to make your case but let’s not pretend the Flyers didn’t exist before 10/8/25.

You’re actually doubling down on this claim! Hilarious! I don’t even bother watching All Star games any more. Those games are friendly. 4 Nations, and the World Cup games that came before, were anything but friendly. Did you actually watch any of the games? Yeah, we see this kind of hockey in All Star games every year!

ParticipantI feel bad for Brink after he had a great game but Drysdale with 0 points and 0 SOG. Sanheim played another 30 minutes tonight. Neither keeper had .900 sv% tonight

Hahaha! .897 for Ersson. Hardly awful. He stopped a lot of pucks. Very disappointed they didn’t steal another point or two these last two games. It was there for them. The reffing tonight and OT goal ruling were trash. Drysdale has been OK. I don’t care about his offense. He looks much better defensively. Speaking of offense, Zeev Buium scored his first NHL goal tonight en route to his first -4 game against the high octane scoring power of Columbus. Defensively, he’s making Drysdale look like Larry Robinson.

ParticipantTocchet and Tortorella coach the game differently, sure. But the decision-making? That’s all too familiar. It arguably cost the team a shot at the postseason in 2023–24, and, more importantly, the team’s young talent is worse off.
Michkov, especially, needs someone who will give him the keys. Interim head coach Brad Shaw gave him them for his entire nine-game stint. Now, it’s potentially back to square one. That’d be a nightmare, given how dominant the 20-year-old Russian already is.
You should never overreact to one game. However, some things that were feared with the Tocchet hire came to fruition in Florida. Can he turn it around, or did the Flyers make another regrettable coaching hire? That was after game 1 but now after game 2 it doesn’t seem like it was a 1 off. Both Michkov and Konecny have seen their minutes crater under Tocchet so far while Coots minutes have exploded to pre back surgery TOI and Sanheim is putting up insane minutes.
Anyway, to soon for overreactions and the Flyers desperately need York back to help Sanheim’s minutes so let’s see what game 3 brings but he doesn’t trust MM or TK so far. Let’s see if Jett draws back to the press box for a vet.

Not to turn this into a Jett vs Zeev debate but you did bring him up. Zeev is playing 20+ min a night and QBing the 1st PP unit in his 1st ever NHL minutes. He is going to take his lumps but the Wild think he is worth it for a team that isn’t going to the Stanley Cup this year. His first goal came in his second game while he was QBing the PP. Meanwhile Jett, who is the same age, is lucky if he plays 7 minutes a night every other game? Jett’s played 60 minutes in 2 years, Zeev has played 45 in 2 games. How much PP time did Jett get so far this year? Jett’s made the team 2 years in a row, how long did it take him to score his 1st goal? His 1st points? I’ll wait.
How many minutes do you think Zeev would be playing on the Flyers thin blue line if he was available? I get that you want to die on this hill for some reason but Jett was a mistake. That is on the GM, not the player.

Participant– need to find a way to get your best player on the ice more. why not experiment with MM on the PK. work with him in practice. Hw silly of me as the flyers think they are a playoff team. no need to work on that and take a long term approach.
– the jett was impressive in his 7+ minutes. how long does this experiment last? over or under the 4 games he played last year. with florida on deck he will be in the press bx next game. flyer logic.
– as JJ said, flyers hanging with the best teams. love the “moral” victories 2 games into the season.
– very important point per boucher.
– bad call on the goalie in OT. brutal to me.
– imagine anyone thinking brinks spot was in jeopardy of not cracking the lineup.
– no MM in OT, see above post.
– dvorak with top line minutes. predictable.
– ex selke looking less and les nimble.
– this team is jus not good. need lots of parts to get it on track. dotn see that happening anytime soon.
– LHV with a big 5-2 win.

comparing a rookie in buium to a seasoned very like JD is a tad off base. love your obsession with buium. playing a tad under 25 minutes a night last game. take him and his play over what the flyers have to offer, going forward.
however the chances of the flyers developing buium into a top pair guy are slim. better off for laughtchenko. he bleeds fleyrs and plays flyers hockey.

ParticipantI hope eventually we see Grebenkin on the PP as a net front presence. Not sure how Briere is going to resolve this glut at wing, but if the game plan is to be a puck possession team, going to need wingers who can constantly win along the boards and protect the puck. Grebenkin and Foerster are the two best options. Maybe Grebenkin gets more then 11 shifts if the team stops taking dumb penalties, just need to find a way to get him more shifts.

makes zero sense to keep both the russian and the jett if going to give them shit minutes. flyers just have the wrong approach. all about the current day and results.
excluding the 4th line, MM has the lowest TOI among the forwards. going to be something to watch going forward with the most overpaid coach in the game.
