ParticipantThe first period saw a marked difference in pace from the Flyers first game in Sunrise. Using a quick and disruptive forecheck, they built an early 6-3 shot advantage in the opening nine minutes of play.
Is it any coincidence that the 1st game they went with their big less skilled veterans lineup to a younger younger more skilled lineup last night on both offense and defense with players playing more balanced minutes?
The Flyers are going to be at a disadvantage on the ice most games this season. The Flyers need to stop trying to play the lineup they wish they had and play the best possible lineup for the team they actually have.

ParticipantFlyers got a much needed 1st win last night. Coots and Sanheim’s minutes were down to more normal levels for the 1st time all season. Glad to see Andrae get almost 11 minutes.
Last year’s home opener had Coots playing 4th line wing with no explanation. I can’t imagine anyone is happier that Torts is gone than Couterier.
Couturier makes it clear on an early difference between Tocchet and Tortorella
Still can’t believe Torts was the face of the franchise for 3 years.

ParticipantVladar again was very good tonight, pleasant surprise. Zamula won’t be back in the lineup for awhile. Team deserves credit for weathering the storm and get the win in regulation.

ParticipantDoes Zamula’s agent watch hockey? Is he asking for top pair minutes? PP qb? He has a decent shot but his play has been awful.

yes its me 2050Participantno shock seeing zamula out after spouting off. would have preferred juulson sit.
coach feeling ok with no ND as thought he was “needed” against teams like the panthers.

yes its me 2050Participanta Nice nonbiased read. Falls on both parties. Flyers haven’t helped him improve. He also hasn’t taken that step. We all know the flyers defense development history so to me more on the organization. Also keep in mind he was a non-drafted player and maybe there just isn’t much there.
I expect him to be traded within the next 2 weeks. Flyers don’t like disgruntles players. Will hurt the “room” and “culture”.

ParticipantPlaying a big heavy panthers lineup seems to me they need the beef of abols and ND……
Be typical flyers to call up andrae then sit him. Flyers need to see what they have in him, unless they have already determined he isn’t an nhl player. Juulson stinks and zamula hasn’t improved. Read someehwere zamuls agent is whining about playing time. Any truth tp that Bill?
Insert Andra and keep ginning as well.
Its early though they need to realize this is not a playoff nor anywhere near a contending team.

yes its me 2050ParticipantAt the end of September, Andrae was sent to the Phantoms after playing just two preseason games. At the time, Flyers management seemed underwhelmed with his early performance. With two smaller statured offensive defensemen in York and Jamie Drysdale, the team seemed reticent on having a third.
…
Following their opening two games (and really going back to the end of preseason), Flyers head coach Rick Tocchet hasn’t received consistent play from his depth defensemen. Egor Zamula struggled mightily in that time, Adam Ginning made the roster as a long shot, while Noah Juulsen has been relatively nondescript in his play.Gilbert, who had been waived prior to the York injury announcement, was scratched in both regular season games.
Deja vu. In choices between size and skill, youth and vet they picked the team they wish they had instead of for the team they actually have. I get that they would rather Emil never play an NHL game for them ever again because he would never make the FLA panthers 6’+ blue line but neither would most of the Flyers defense for other reasons. When given a choice between making the best bad choice or the worst bad choice. They tend to make the worst.
Good to see that Jett is projected to play. As long as he’s up he might as well be playing.
I do think Tocchet’s honeymoon period isn’t going to be long, he needs a win or at least to show growth as a team. A long losing streak to start the season isn’t going to sit well with a team that is in the playoff mix.
his handling of MM will bear watching. for hinm to have less minutes than all the top 9 forwards is comical. needs to buy into “flyers” hockey.
