Not really shocked the did the deal now, but I can’t help but wonder how many low-ball offers they received as it’s no big secret Hughes had no intention to re-sign there.
While Hughes is no doubt the best player in the trade, I like that Vancouver appears to have strengthened weaknesses on their roster (long term) and, believe it or not, actually got bigger on their blue line.
VAN was the worst team in the league with Hughes but they got very good young players in return, have pending UFAs they can still deal for futures and can continue the tank for the first overall pick. They did fine under the circumstances.
I’m shocked VAN did the deal so fast, but they got a haul, really everything I figured they would have wanted. Young center, Dman, prospect AND pick. MIN threw the kitchen sink at this deal and got it done.
