ParticipantMaybe it’s because I am geographically removed from the situation and maybe it’s because I don’t have the Leafer seniority experience many of you do, but I am NOT giving up hope yet.
Nobody expected the defending champs to go down without a fight and nobody realistically expected the Leafs to win in less than 6 or 7 games.
Granted, shitting the bed two games in a row is Leafy as fuck, but Berubae has one last chance to light a fire under this core and I am going to withhold final judgements until we see a handshake line.
GLG.
It’s not about the defending Champs going down without a fight, it’s about the Leafs “going down” without a fight. Which they do time and time again.
Marner is a junk playoff player. Reilly is done. Matthews is too broken all the time. JT is slow. Nylander is useless alone.
Bennett took out the goalie in Game 1 and not one person on the team did shit to Bennett. Florida has been wrecking our players mentally and physically because they’re weak and easily intimidated. Their talent cannot compensate for their lack of heart.
Leafs have the most expensive and most wrong type of players in the top 6 for playoff hockey. Plain and simple. Same shit different year.

I agree with all of that. Bennett should still be in the hospital.
I’m just not giving methhead Panthers fans the satisfaction of melting down in public over it.
This is either the stage being set for the greatest Leafs series victory in decades, or it’s another chapter of failure. I think we all know what might be coming, but I’m still gonna hold out hope like a pollyanna muldoon.

ParticipantThe Panthers are just a better team, built to beat this and most other teams.
Kucherov had 0 goals in 10 playoff games the past 2 years against the Panthers. McDavid got 0 in Game 7 last year. The Panthers are THAT good.
This Leafs team won the division, they beat the lesser Ottawa team, as they should. Now, they ran into the legit Champs. They aren’t losing to a garbage team.
This Leafs team requires serious improvement but blowing it apart without reasonable, logical replacements makes no sense unless people want to engage in a full tank and rebuild.
Losing assets for nothing makes no sense.

ParticipantLosing assets for nothing makes no sense.
Yes, this is the problem. Losing assets is awful, especially when you don’t have many.
But how to keep assets and not overpay for it to the level that it becomes not asset anymore.
If you pay for example to Marner whatever he demands, his contract become unmovable.May 15, 2025 at 2:58 pm #5058fifty mission cap
ParticipantI’m betting Marner walks, anyway. He plays, looks and talks like he’s done here. It just looked toxic last night.
We went all in on a core that is made up of the wrong people and 50% of which will likely be gone.
Massive organizational failure from the top down.

ParticipantThe leafs DO NOT have a 1st round pick until 2028
Wow.
That laughton trade is still horrible.
~FakepartofmeAgreed, on the surface it doesn’t look great. But the Leaf system is VASTLY different than the Philly, errrr, did they even have a system?!? Laughton has never looked comfortable to me. But we got him for one more year, so hopefully a full season will have him ready for a DEEEEEP playoff run in 2026.

They simply can’t afford to let their 100 point players walk for nothing with no replacements.

ParticipantThe Leafs are Zelensky – no cards!
Marner can walk right out of town and I’m betting he does.

~UGOkay, I’ll bite. What are you comfortable with for his next contract?

ParticipantEk posting on the Leafs blog about a new Leafs blogger on HB.
Yeah, because *that* is the problem.

LOL. I had to go look.
Yeah, the bloggers are the least of HB’s issues. I don’t care who he brings in to blog. Clean up the fucking forums and enforce the rules.

13.5 x 8.
Rielly traded. Tavares 5 x 3 MAX. Knies 7 x 4.
Improve the bottom six. Add a PP QB.
Hire Tortz.
Explore trading Matthews when he has a rebound season.
Trade Marner in the future if necessary but can’t let him walk as a UFA.
Everything they do should be to recover assets or improve incrementally.
May 15, 2025 at 4:41 pm #5083WHIPPER
ParticipantHow dafuq are you EVER going to trade Rielly?!? He’s overpaid, terrible, has a million more years left and, if that’s not enough, he has trade protection.
I can’t take anyone seriously that suggests trading Rielly.

Everybody can be traded. Just a matter of negotiation. Worse contracts have been moved before.
