I was never banned or anything but you would see other people being banned for absurd times, no answers, no responses and no communication from the people in charge. When MiB left, I tried to communicate with just about anyone there – and mostly I found people who had already left. It doesn’t feel like it’s got a lot of runway left.

Dozzer inadvertently confirmed something about HB that I had long suspected : the moderation system is completely on the fly and the left hand has no idea what the right hand is doing. There is no moderator-only forum on HB, according to Dozzer. I don’t recall his exact words, but it left the impression that there used to be a mod-only forum, but there no longer is. On other large busy forums, moderation decisions are discussed and often voted on in private between the mods and admins only. Decisions to lock a thread or delete a post might be made unilaterally, but any decision to ban somebody usually required a discussion and consensus unless it was a blatant porn spammer or something like that.
Worse, Ek won’t respond to emails, private messages, or social media tags. Contacting Ek is kinda like praying – you never know if he’s actually listening or not, and then usually nothing happens anyway.
That’s not a good way to run things and it makes things difficult on the mods like Dozzer who are trying in good faith to keep things going smoothly, but their hands are tied by wonky outdated software and a site admin who is AWOL when you need him.
Mike and Bill seem like they have ducks lined up in a neat row compared to HB. I have hope this site will continue to improve with new features because it’s built on an actively-supported codebase and not some ancient stack written on clay tablets.
There’s a couple more HB posters I would like to see over here, but there’s probably 100 or more I am happy never to see again. I’m glad you’re here Monkey.

I got the best seats in the house. Laptop hooked up to the big screen TV, ready to pipe in a HD stream of the game.
No traffic. No parking headaches. No drunk assholes (except myself). And a lot cheaper…. a lot.
My WiFi has been a little wonky lately, so I usually have to refresh the feed a half dozen times – usually at the absolute worst times (last minute of a period, overtime, fight, powerkill, etc).
I’ll be using the Toronto feed if I can find one. The Florida feeds are unwatchable – just blatant fluffer homerism to the highest degree.

MLSE is having a ‘watch party’ inside the SBA on Friday for the Leaf game in Florida so if you wish to you can buy tickets on Ticketmaster now for $15 to be inside the rink and watch the game on the jumbotron. No clue if they are booze but knowing MLSE they wouldn’t miss out on the opportunity to make money – it does say food beverage service and giveaways etc. but doesn’t specifically mention booze.
Decent deal I guess if you live close or on public transit and wanted to watch the game with a bunch of friends / other fans but not host a party or be at a bar?

As dmnted said, you would copy & paste the text you want (and you have to manually type the username in if you want to), and then use the B-Quote control above, or at least put the text inside of a ‘<‘blockquote’>’ bracket, using the same close bracket system with ‘</’ that you did on HB.
It’s what I was alluding to principally when I noted that I was hoping they were going to keep working on the site!

Florida is a superior team at nearly every position with their major flaw being they take too many penalties. If the Leafs are serious and actually want to win this game, they have to forecheck aggressively, draw penalties and score on the powerplays.
Take McMann out of the line-up, give Robertson a chance and maybe you can spark some depth scoring (Leafs bottom six is horrible offensively, basically 0 goals).
Remove one forward from the PP (sorry Knies, Tavares is better in front) and put OEL on at the point.
Feels like a 3-2 OT game. Who will be the hero? Better be Matthews.

It looks bad, but this series isn’t over yet. Leafs could still win this and I will root for them until the end, win or lose.
If they win the next two and pull this off, then we’ll look back on these doomer comments and laugh about it.
If they lose this series, then you gotta do a partial rebuild at the least – wholesale changes must be made. They changed the GM, they changed the coach, they changed the captain, what next?
If this core bungles this last chance to step up, then you gotta break them up. You don’t reward vanishing acts with fat raises and new contracts.

~PDFFor sure, this is not over. Almost every Cup champion has moments like this where they’re on the verge and then they clutch the fuck up. Florida was down 2 games to 0 and 2-0 in game three, then they did Stanley Cup Champion things.
That being said, this team just does not have that player, (or maybe 2-3 players), that can single-handedly turn the trajectory of a series, (aka McDavid, Drai). That’s what makes it frustrating AF living in Alberta and hate watching the Oilers. I think the Leafs are a much better constructed team talent-wise than the Oilers. But the Oilers have gamers, guys that bring it to another level when required. Heck, throw Bouchard and Nurse in there as well.
The Leafs need to make drastic changes. Their hands are tied, so no matter what people think, Matty, Willy, and Rielly aren’t going anywhere. They better retain Knies long term, and then JT and Marner are the odd guys out. Sure, it sucks to lose a generational (regular season) player like Marner. But we have a similar player in Cowan waiting in the wings, (although, I’m not sold on him at all). We need to use that cap space better. Thank you for coming to my Ted Talk.

Matthews better be hurt. I know Florida’s centers are good, but not good enough to completely shut down a 100% healthy and determined Matthews.
So, either he’s playing through an injury that is limiting him significantly, or the guy just doesn’t have that extra gear that is required in the postseason. Florida also shut down Ducherov, but he was playing hurt. Similar situation. You might shut him down for a game or two, but not for an entire series if he’s healthy.
I hope the management comes clean on his injury status in the offseason. I think the fans are owed an explanation.

Marner is the playmaker. If he’s dishing to a guy that misses his chances, it’s the shooters fault.
Nylander played great in the first 2 games, now he gets 5 breakaways a game and can’t do shit anymore.
The horrid PP is the coaches fault. Savard was jumping like a little girl skipping rope every time the Leafs scored but he’s not jumping around anymore. Berube is overrated but at least he has a hockey mind. I think Savard’s brain is too scrambled to be an NHL coach much less a competent one.

I can’t franking believe we gave up a 1st rounder to rent Laughton.
Next year will be a huge step backwards, but it’s better than the horrific inertia this team has made me suffer through for the past eight years.

I suspect after asking him to waive his NMC, he’s a little bitter towards the team. Also, the fans have/will turn on him, so does he really want to play in that environment? Kucherov had 0 goals in 10 playoff games the past 2 years against the Panthers. McDavid got 0 in Game 7 last year. The Panthers are THAT good.
This Leafs team won the division, they beat the lesser Ottawa team, as they should. Now, they ran into the legit Champs. They aren’t losing to a garbage team.
This Leafs team requires serious improvement but blowing it apart without reasonable, logical replacements makes no sense unless people want to engage in a full tank and rebuild.

Anybody who thinks the crowd, the atmosphere and home ice doesn’t mean anything needs to watch and learn a thing about the giant boost this Winnipeg crowd creates for their team. People absolutely rocking from the puck drop, total whiteout, costumes, chanting, passion, everybody on their feet, cheering, yelling, participating all game long.
The way Winnipeg is playing tonight, outshooting Dallas 32-15 so far in the 3rd period, up 3-0, is partly connected to how they feel at home. You can clearly see their play drop off on the road, but at home, they get a giant boost from the REAL fans in the stands. Dallas DOES NOT want to have to come back here for a Game 7.
Hellebuyck, another home shutout. It’s a shame he sucks though.
The Leafs home atmosphere is an absolute disgrace compared to the level of passion you see during Winnipeg and also Edmonton games in dire situations where they are behind in the series 3-1 or 2-0.
Home ice should be an advantage and the fans at the Leafs game had no reason to stay, but they were mute by comparison from puck drop onward.

The problem with those theories is that they ignore the absymal playoff performance of those two for many years now.
I would not have believed Marner would walk for nothing, until recently. It would surprise no one if he decided he was done with the circus and the failure and wanted a new start.
I wouldn’t be disappointed to see them both gone and Rielly. I don’t really care about how good the team is at this point. I am sick of the annual slap in the face to the fans.

My uneducated guess is that management asking him to waive his NTC changed everything – the organization has no loyalty to him, so why should he feel any loyalty to MLSE?

The problem with those theories is that they don’t explain the same apparent lack of any heart, pushback, desire or pride that we have seen for what, 8? 9? years now.

You don’t go from scoring 69 one season to less than half that a year later without something going on. I’m just curious to hear what it is. Offense from him this postseason is pretty much a write off, but he’s playing well otherwise.

Hot take : the hard salary cap is a sack of diseased dicks.
It makes it impossible to build a dynasty. One or two championships tops and then the GM is forced to start shedding critical players solely for financial reasons.
It has also destroyed team-player loyalty because no player is untouchable in the world of balance sheets and pencil pushers.
There is a lot to discuss around the decision to keep a player like Marner who is on an expiring contract. His paycheck breaking the team shouldn’t be a consideration.
Would it be fair to small market teams to abolish the cap? Well, let’s also ask – would those same small market teams exist in a vacuum without being subsidized by the revenue from big market teams who prop up the profitability of the entire league?
Institute a “luxury tax” and abolish the hard cap.

~AetherialI think Marner is going to walk too. The universal hate he’s getting has gotta get to a guy. Sure, he loves the idea of playing in Toronto, but this city is done with playoff flops and he is getting the brunt of the hate.
Matthews is 1000% not going anywhere. You don’t extend a guy, give him the C, and then trade him a year later. No doubt, he needs to perform better in the playoffs, but he’ll have many more years to prove himself, (whether deserved or not).
Rielly is untradeable, be prepared to be swearing at the TV for, what, four more years?!?

I have no doubt Matthews is injured, but he usually his come playoff games, or he’s sick or some other excuse.
The leafs would have to rebuild on the fly, they coudlnt tank for a year cause our garbage gm’s keep “trying to go for it” with the same core and now we dont have any first for the next decade or so lol (until 2028. -

Meh, its a business, marner could have signed at anytime during the year. He chose not to.
Managements mistake was not waiting until the deal with the Canes was 100% confirmed, they jumped the gun.
Either way, Marner can take his 90+ reg season points and fack off.Unless he shows up and propels the leafs to two more wins in this series.

Yup, you could be right…maybe MLSE held off. But from what Ive heard on the radio etc, if marner came with a reasonable offer to sign the leafs would have done it. Its just that it seemed they were too far apart initially.

From what I heard on the radio (so take it with a grain of salt), MLSE wanted to get a deal done before the trade deadline. Marner’s camp said they weren’t talking new contracts until after the season, so MLSE felt they needed to protect themselves by trading him.

It’s plausible, but not sure it makes a whole lot of sense.
If the leafs knew this all long, and were concerned, they could have found a trade, even a decent trade, for him. It is not like teams aren’t interested. They were not necessarily up against the deadline.

First, Rantanen signs at a VERY nice number for Dallas, absolutely tears it up in the playoffs, and then Marner does his typical disappearing act when the games start to mean something. Sure, someone is going to pay him, but I genuinely believe he wanted to spend his whole career in Toronto.
Honestly, I think he winds up in San Jose. He can do his fancy pants shit all day there, not have to worry about the playoffs likely for a few years, make a boat load of money, and have no pressure at all.

Why in the hell would bennett leave Florida to play for the leafs? Why? Unless the leafs grossly overpay….and then why would you want to do that?

Morgan can be moved, you just wont get much for him

Or take a shorter term meh contract.Pretty much any contract can be moved in todays NHL. Some GM will think their situation will improve the players
