It’s real. They are considering it. According to several sources, Babcock has spoken directly with owner Daryl Katz.While Katz would have the ultimate authority, this is a situation where the players would need to be on-board.
According to those same sources, Babcock has met with or spoken to several members of the team’s leadership group. Whatever happened in those meeting(s) was enough to eliminate any potential objection.
It fits with what he’s been whispered about the Oilers since their first-round elimination to Anaheim: that even their core agrees they need a firmer hand on the rudder.
Players hated Scotty Bowman 364 days a year. The one day they didn’t was the day they won their Stanley Cup rings. Some coaches serve as a filter to weed out the bitch ass players who aren’t there to compete for a Cup. Maybe Edmonton has a few too many of those the way the Leafs did.
Yup, he hasn’t won a Cup in a very long time but neither has Torts and look where he is now. Coaches don’t just forget how the game works. And not every coach can win on every team. It takes the right mix, the right situation and the right time. Edmonton might feel like they have an accountability problem and they’re bringing in a guy who is going to set them straight.
At the end of the day, your statement about McDavid is retarded. Edmonton knows he’s on a short contract, he’s on a discount and he wants to win a Cup more than anything. If he doesn’t approve of Babcock, he wouldn’t be hired. End of woke story.

One team takes home the big prize, the Stanley Cup. The rest start planning for next year. Leafs? Still figuring out who the coach is, who to draft first, and who to look at in free agency. Soon, the trade market opens up. Meanwhile, we sleep.
