At least there will be a little more traffic. I’m sure it picks up, once the Playoffs end and the draft gets closer. Free Agency will happen and by the 15th of July, this site will barely move due to summer and all. At least it’s not going to be a morgue in here, since the Leafs won the draft lottery and there’s hope for a brighter future. Besides, the Marlies are also doing great things. Sure, it’s not NHL hockey, but the young players like Cowan and Danford are shining brightly. Learning to win at every level is important for development. Cowan has won it all in Junior, in London. Danford has been close in his time in the OHL. Two decent players that should be good, NHL caliber players for the next 10 years. Cowan as a second line winger and Danford as a 2nd pairing defenseman. Nothing wrong with that, for 2 late 1st rounders.
Now just imagine if the Leafs had another twelve 1st round picks to work with to add to that shallow pool of prospects.

The series isn’t over yet. Carolina is still a great team who plays a relentless style of hockey. Just like how they came back in games, they can come back in the series.
Marner doesn’t have to win the Cup or the Conn Smythe to prove the Leafs fucked up hard because he’s already proven it. He’s done everything a great player needs to do on a winning team. He could be playing for Carolina right now and they’d be in the same boat. In fact, they were smart enough to try to acquire Marner and given how things have gone, they were absolutely vindicated in trying to do so. Funny that the two teams that wanted Marner the most are both in the Cup Final. It’s as if they know how to build a winner and the Leafs are completely retarded on the matter.
The reality is, the Leafs did not facilitate the environment to create a winner on the ice. And off the ice, when they failed, instead of being accountable, they shifted the blame to scapegoats who they promptly ran out of town. You look at Vegas and they have Eichel while the Leafs have Matthews. Both strong, two-way players who are offensively dangerous. But where they differ is how they construct their team throughout the line-up. The Leafs thought Nylander would help them win. Who does Vegas have instead? Karlsson. Not flashy, not offensively overpowering but smart, two-way player. The Leafs have Tavares, Vegas have Stone. Again, Tavares, on paper, scores more points. But Stone knows how to play two-way playoff hockey. The Leafs have Rielly. Vegas has Theodore. You go down the list and it just becomes clear that the Leafs had absolutely no idea how to build a team. They had strong individuals but as the years went on, they traded all their scapegoats (Kadri, Hyman, Marner) until they were left with a dysfunctional lottery team.
And also coaching. The Leafs had multiple opportunities to hire a guy like Torts, instead, they went with a rookie head coach in Keefe. When that rookie failed, they acquired a mediocre coach who won a Cup with an ultra defensive, hard nosed roster and gave him zero defensive, hard nosed players. Just the same way they were inept at keeping the correct players, they also picked the wrong coaches and the wrong GMs. The highest decision makers are constantly making bad decisions in selecting the decision makers. Rinse. Repeat. And the fans? Sold out, every game, clapping like seals.
