Participantid go with Carle, young and new…get that old guard Berube stink off
also Carle is 36, Chayka is 36…so it has to beI want the Leafs to bring Carle into the organization but I don’t think I want him in the NHL yet.
The Marlies coach, John Gruden should be promoted to withstand the beginning of the rebuild. The reason being, he has more experience but is still a “new young” coach. He was an assistant in Boston and Long Island as well as doing well in the AHL with the Marlies, two gold medals at the WJC and winning a Championship in the OHL. That’s an alright resume for a position that should be transitioning into a full rebuild. He can work with young players and the majority of Marlies that he is already familiar with as the Leafs start to trade away everybody over 25.
By promoting John Gruden, you create a vacancy for Carle to step into. Carle “might” want to jump directly into the NHL but grossly overpaying him will change his mind to take a couple years in the AHL first. This gives him time to adjust from college kids to pro players. Then, two or three years from now, when the Leafs are in full tank and rebuild mode, you can promote Carle from within without him having to deal with the day to day tire fire of a tanking, rebuilding team.
This, of course, depends on if Rod Brind’Amour, who is a free agent in 2029, can be pulled in or not whereby you see if Carle wants to remain as an assistant and learn from the best.

Participant4.5M per year for Berube to coach the Leafs.
That’s a lot scratch man.The Leafs could spend 100 million on staff. Who gives a fuck? That’s the only area the Leafs can have an advantage and they should take full advantage of it.
apperently, you do .

ParticipantManny Malhotra
Does that include trading down and drafting his son?
Chayka said the search will be “deep and wide” which is MLSE code for: “there’s one guy who actually wants this dumpster fire but we’re going to pretend like we have to go through 10,000 people” as they did with the GM “search”.
Chayka also said the players weren’t not consulted about the coaching situation so there’s another thing to push Matthews and this core out the door.

Participantalso good that they were willing to eat the 2 years of Berube salary. the comment Win at all costs or whatever it was.
hopefully Pelley just fades into the background
“Win at all costs” only applies if they actually continue to break the bank on staff. If they go out and hire some budget coach, it won’t help.
Pelley will never fade into the background until he’s fired.

ParticipantMarek says Utah would be a better fit for the Leafs if they trade Matthews.

ParticipantI feel like Pelley is going the full nuclear option on the management side of things, because we all know they’re not going to blow up the roster, (which I’m fine with, for the record). Bringing in Sundin and Chayka was the first move in a clear (risky?) new direction. I think they’re going to go completely off the board with the head coach, definitely not sticking with the old boy’s club that professional sports are known for.
