Yesterday, at this time…very few options. Today, many options.
Option 1, moving Matthews to Los Angeles. Quinton Byfield would be a must. Also, the Leafs would get a 1st this year and their first next year. Los Angeles is in dire need for a Center. Leafs should bring back Scott Laughton as a UFA signing.
Option 2, Moving Matthews plus Robertson to Philadelphia. Trevor Zegras, Nikita Grebenkin and Philly’s first, this year and the 1st rounder of Toronto that’s owed for 2028.
Option 3, Moving Matthews to Anaheim for Cutter Gauthier and a first, next year.
Unfortunately, I think Matthews gets you none of those packages. Constant injuries, and a contract way out of line with his performance diminishes that return significantly. I still think he has to go.
The LA proposal would be the closest but I would be thrilled to get Byfield and 1 first, nevermind 2.

I am not convinced Matthews wants out, and I understand if he wants to be on a team that is going for it.I think you keep him (and Nylander) for this coming season and see how it plays out. And if you cant sign AM, you move him after the season or TDL whatever.

If the Leafs had a GM who knew how to win trades, they could rebuild this team by 2031.
Rebuild 2031:
2026: Trade down with NYR or VAN (hopefully they’re retarded). Draft Verhoeff and Hurlbert. Both go back to develop for 2-3 years.
2027: TDL: Carlo and OEL for one 1st round pick each. Rebuild Matthews and Nylander value. Finish 9th.
2028: TDL: McCabe, Tanev, Tavares, Matthews (50% retained) and Nylander (50% retained) for least seven pieces (1st round picks, top prospects, young roster players).
2029: Tank, lottery pick.
2030: Tank, lottery pick.2031-2033:
