Everyone they shipped out was under 6′ (except for ND and his trade was pretty much doing the vet a favor) and everyone they acquired (including AHL player swap) is over 6′. This goes back to the draft where they did the same thing. They don’t necessarily want to get more talented, they just want to get BIGGER.

The Flyers have decided that their problems aren’t that they aren’t talented enough, it’s that they aren’t big and physical enough. They also play a low event style of hockey that is boring but also, in theory, doesn’t take talent to execute. The big guys can provide the entertainment by hitting people to offset Tocchet hockey putting the fans asleep.

That Mammoth game was, win or lose, a game that nobody in their right mind would pay to watch and that is the essence of Tocchet hockey. 16 SOG. The Flyers have really struggled with SOG this year and part of that is Tocchet. The Flyers went from 26th SOG and 25th SOG against and made both worse falling to 29th in both categories. How do you take a bad team and make it worse? Thank god the fans have Gritty to entertain fans at games because it sure as heck isn’t the on ice product.

Brink has a brighter future ahead of him than Jiricek but he was small so that made him expendable. Jiri has all the physical attributes that make the Flyers thirsty but (hell MIN traded an entire draft worth of picks for him just a year ago) but can’t skate or play hockey and the Flyers wonder why they are never happy no matter how many tall guys they date. Brink was always going to get traded but should have a long and happy career. Hell he’s going to the playoffs with a good team, two things you can’t say about the Flyers. Jiricek has a long road just to be a 3rd pair dman which is why the Flyers got him for a song. The trade was fine as Jiri has a better chance of becoming an NHL regular than anyone the Flyers would pick with a draft pick they would’ve gotten. It was the best bad choice they had.

They aren’t big and physical enough. It’s been clear the plan is to get that way. It’s the correct path.

the correct path should be to ad talent first and foremost.

cant wait to see all these big guys they drafted in 4 years on the 4th line. What former flyers will be the GM? Berube or will he be the coach?
