i wouldnt say good riddance, more like it was time to try a different approach. in the NHL the playoffs are a very different game and you cant play soft dipsy doodling hockey like Mitch does. it works a bit but good teams squish you like bug in the important games

No marner isnt the only one who cant play well in games 5 – 7, but we’re stuck with matthews and marner was an FA…and HE DIDNT WANT TO STAY.So he left.

What was Matthews reason the previous years?
Marner isnt solely responsible for the leafs failings, not at all. He simply had to go due to cap and that they have too many similarly soft players making over $10m
We already overpaid matthews (twice) and couldnt afford to overpay marner again.Marner will be missed in the reg season and games 1-4 in the playoffs for sure, specially once matthews goes down again for another injury.
But it was time for a change.
Hopefully the 2nd/3rd/4th liners we replaced him with, improve our depth and depth scoring.
