And yet those goals could still win some games against bad teams. Also, why keep him when he can get you draft picks or prospects? That’s the same mistake we got stuck with when Sundin refused to waive his NTC. Tavares won’t want to play on a lottery team at 38. He’s still going to want to win a Cup and playing on a trash lottery team doesn’t come before trying to win a Cup.

You’re right about Knies probably does play a lot better with elite line mates and get you a better return but if the Leafs blow up the team and rebuild, but you’ll need him when you have new elite franchise players on ELC and he would still be under 30. And the majority of the team will still be on ELC until he’s 32 which means you can afford to overpay him to stay.

Think of how Chicago had veterans on the team before Kane and Toews showed up. It allowed them to win a Cup a lot faster than expected. I’d rather have Knies at 29 than try to find another one and wait 5 years for him to be ready. If he refuses to play on a tanking Canadian team, you trade him but if you can keep him, you keep him.

Sundin is not JT, not from TO and did not grow up loving the team. Mentally their attachment to the leafs is not equal, please get a grasp on this.

Knies is an American who will only stay under 53.53% taxation when the league has limited bonuses to 60% now to push talent back down to the southern US with a talented team. The league doesn’t want the cup won by a Canadian team, hell they don’t even really want it won by northern US teams, they want it won where they’re trying to build the league. Financially everything is groomed for teams in low taxation states. So it’s a safe bet that unless a Canadian team is a competitor don’t expect an talented American to want to play up here.

You’re retarded. At no point in my post did I say the Leafs weren’t dogshit at the moment, but you’re too blind, or stupid, to have noticed what I wrote.

I don’t know if you’re aware of this, but professional sports teams are able to trade players, prospects, and picks to improve their team. Literally, the entire point of my post was that there are going to be changes to this team. God, you’re a complete idiot.

Sorry you’re too retarded to understand that this team has nothing to trade to improve the team. If they did have those types of assets, they’d have done it already. They have no 1st round pick until 2028 because they already wasted the 26 and the 27 1st round pick on such amazing all-stars as Laughton and Carlo. Sorry your room temp IQ can’t grasp that concept. Complete and total retard.

Getting back to the Leafs, the team we see this week is not the same team after the TDL. Kampf and Jarny most likely dumped. Laughton (as bad as he’s been) is coming back at some point, and I don’t expect him to be as bad as last year. Matthews and Knies have been called out by the coach, and I expect they’ll get rolling at some point. JT is doing JT things, and Willy is piling up the points. The team had a very similar start last year before winning the division, and they have lots of flexibility to improve. I expect Tre is already working on something to replace Domi on the top line, who knows if it’ll be a HUGE move or a smaller one.

    Literally, zero reason to panic.

You’re delusional. This team is dogshit and you’re too blind, or stupid, to see it.

This team isn’t bad enough to miss the playoffs (unless Stolarz or some other major injury) but they aren’t winning a Cup. Lucky to win a round playing like this filth.

ng for so stop caring about that lol

And as much as I hate to say this the truth is simple. Once his contract is coming to an end he will be in his 30s, will no longer be able
To get everything as a bonus on July 1st and play for league minimum, and the leafs will have nothing really worth mentioning in development yet.

I really hate to say this man but the leafs have 5 years tops before a rebuild will be needed. They’re already at a decade for this core, no upcoming good picks, prospects aren’t deep, and the core of this team will be 30+ VERY soon.

It’s going to feel like 2010 again before you know it.

So the Leaf victories we can cheer for will be that our goon beats up the other teams goon and we catch a great team on a back to back after 5 games in 6 nights and get a goaltending performance for the ages in a win?

    Sign me up!

    lol

I still remember the terrible Leafs team in 1983 beating the powerhouse Oilers and Bunny Larocque stopping the great one on a penalty shot.

    lol

For starters every player in the league says they love who they’re playing for so stop caring about that lol

Matthews is not injured and has not lost his ability to play or score. He’s just struggling without Marner. His value and his contract would still bring the Leafs a sky high return no matter what some retards think.

Same goes for a lot of other assets the Leafs have. There are teams that overpay at the deadline every, single year. Usually, it’s a team stupid like the Leafs, but there are many others. Teams that are going hard for the playoff run will give up 1st round picks and prospects. The Leafs just have to make the players available.

The Leafs have two chances left. This year (they suck and aren’t going anywhere) and next year. That’s a really small window of opportunity. But that’s all they got left. After that, they have to trade everybody and start the rebuild sooner rather than later. Matthews signed a 4 year deal for a reason. He’s done playing here if there is no chance to win. And it’s hard to blame him after what they did to this team.

Man, JT is at the point where he scores and the leafs still lose. Keep him. He literally IS the Bozak if that’s what you want to call it.

I’m seeing that out of him now tbh, can he play? Yes, does he amplify a linemates game? No.

As for Knies whatever, he won’t look as good without top ten picks on his line, get rid of him when they decide to drop Matthews while he is shiny imo.

A lot can happen in the next 2.5 years. He’s been in the playoffs every year since he’s been here (hasnt performed that great on a consistent basis), he loves it here and they could still go on a nice playoff run.
The D is already old and will get slower…we all knew that. But if they stay decent they could be moved out for picks or parts if things fall apart…1st rounders?…doubtful. But we’ll see in several years.

Some peeps swore up and down that Matthews would be leaving the last time he was an FA, didnt happen, not even close. Could things change, of course, we’ll see. Him and McD will be FA’s that year, could the leafs sign both for team “friendly-ish” deals. Sure why not.
So many things could happen in the next couple of years, no sense going doom and gloom 6 games into this season worrying about the 27/28 season.

The leafs have made some bad TDL trades and blew their 1st rounders for the next couple of years, that’s gonna really hurt them (as expected). So I expect a quiet deadline.
But the season has barely begun so not too worried. Heck, nowadays I dont worry about the leafs at all. 🙂

So the Canucks are looking for a Center.
The Leafs have one in the minors.

    Kampf for Vancouver 4th 2026 or a 3rd in 2027 or a waive pick up…….
I would prefer a few draft picks for him.
Vancouver could be on his no trade list.
