ParticipantWith the somewhat recent rumor Tocchet may opt to go back to TV for the upcoming season, it actually makes the most sense for him. He is now 61 and at the moment, the remaining job openings are for teams who are at best fringe wildcard teams. I’m not a big fan of any of Torts assistants surviving when the new HC is hired.

ParticipantShaw will be retained if he wants to stay (which he said he does). Dillabaugh will also be brought back.

Participant@ Bill so they will force the new coach to retain Shaw as an assistant? Or will they find another role in the organization for Shaw.
Really hope they do not force whoever they hire to keep Shaw. Also what has Dillabaugh done in 10 years to be retained?

ParticipantI also question the need for Dillabaugh to be retained this long. Being in the same organization for over a decade, usually means that coach has shown a performance way above the league average with their responsibilities. No doubt Dilly has a wealth of goalie knowledge, but in regards to his peers certainly there is a huge question that he is not anywhere close to being above average.

ParticipantNow we know it won’t be David Carle… he just signed a multi-year extension to stay at the University of Denver.

ParticipantMade the transition over. Hello everyone. I’d be okay with Fersch or Woodcroft. Both would bring something different, a little younger too. I would not be okay if Shaw was forced on either, nothing against him.

People are starting to slowly filter over. We have a bad actor here creating accounts using our names from the “other site” and that is getting sorted out slowly.
I am intrigued by Ferschweiler. I like that he was an assistant in the NHL before becoming a successful college coach.

whoever coaches this team is in a losing preposition. hire lappy and finish low, despite that not being the plan. flyers lack the talent for whoever the coach to matter much. though would prefer a modern in tune type coach. If Ferschweiler gets hired he clearly wanted the bag of cash. which cant blame anyone.
lappy or shaw my be one of the few coaches who would want the job. So the flyers may not have much of a choice.

This may be true. This team is still far enough away that there is a good chance that whoever gets the job now will just be setting up the next coach in line to reap the benefits. The team may be selling that they are ready to take the next step, and they may even believe that. The problem is most people outside the organization probably don’t see it that way.

ParticipantFlyers have the pieces to be competitive but they don’t have the elite talent like Rantanen to take over games and series

ParticipantI still would be surprised if Shaw gets the job. He was the “good cop” to Torts, I just believe for this job, that is a non-starter. Not a surprise Tocchet has limited interest in this job, apparently. The good friends with Jonesy was over blown. Not doubt there is a friendship, but Tocchet is 61 and if he accepts another HC position, it will probably be his last. Taking a job from a top 5 worst record in the league, made little sense.

don’t understand where tocchet gets all this hype. he has done absolutely nothing in 9 years as a head coach. why would a “winning” team want him?
him turning the flyers down would be 100% fn hilarious as what a bad look for the GS.
I wonder if they are looking at an assistant on a current playoff team. Maybe Bill can shed some light. otherwise seems a long time to not have a coach in place at his time. Wonder if there is a domino effect waiting to happen once one goes the other will follow.
