Was well regarded in Pittsburgh where he won two more cups as an assistant. That led to HC gigs where he didn’t get golden opportunities but I think the teams overperformed at least in stretches. They need at least a stop gap #1 goalie this coming year. If they don’t get that, even Scotty Bowman couldn’t make this team competitive. So, I’m OK with it.

Curious to see what kind of crazy money they’re going to throw at him.

There should be a stat in hockey for coaches like there is in baseball for players: Wins Above Replacement

Isn’t that a good thing? People hated Torts winning now they get this and still whine.

The organization is going to try and upgrade the goaltending and I’m not sure Tocchet can have a worse PP. Unless the team is ravaged by injuries to key players, I do not expect them to be worse then the Torts years. The ability to climb in the standings is certainly a question. Briere cannot just rely on the prospect pool to improve the roster and the UFA market really for years has not given great options. Hockey trades will have to happen.

“From the first conversation I had with Rick, it struck me on how deeply he cares about the Philadelphia Flyers, our city and the fans,” said Flyers Governor, Dan Hilferty. “Rick’s track record speaks for itself.

** love the clichés. yes hos track record does speak for itself. Rick cares more about the big sack of cash you overpaid to hire him. “Hilf” is another fn fool who has zero business being involved in any hockey role.

“This is more than just a press conference—it’s the beginning of a new era of Flyers hockey, led by a true Flyers legend.”

** message sent to some season ticket holders. Is the new era of orange over already? they are starting a new one?
