ParticipantIt’s just not the same, unfortunately.

ParticipantWe both agree on what Keefe brought but honestly? It always felt he got out coached in the playoffs. Played around with line ups too much. I guarantee after the game 5 loss in the first round he’d have swapped some guys out whereas Berube knew Patches was the guy. Has been against Florida too! Definitely makes me realize Berube has say in who Tree brought in (like Patches and maybe others)
Dubas simply has his fingerprints on the team as it is. I find a lot of teams that have success in the playoffs after firing their GM usually has the previous GMs fingerprints all over it. They just couldn’t figure out how to get over the hump. Not saying the leafs have done that quite yet but they certainly look different.
-AaronThe goaltending, the D group, and the bottom six forward group were all largely hot trash during Dubas’ tenure. All of those components are vitally important to winning playoff hockey. He simply was not able to effectively round out his roster. Tree has been able to address these areas.
Keefe is an X’s and O’s coach obsessive with details but whose lack of composure in difficult moments was palpable which bled into the team. Berube’s coaching style is simple and direct and he is clearly had a positive impact on the keeping the team more composed and focused.

ParticipantAnyone who doubted Woll can pound sand. What more can the guy do?!?
I am guilty of doubting Patches. I feel shame
He made some big saves but had a couple of weak goals, luckily the leafs were able to score 4.-

ParticipantI am obviously a Dubas “fan” because his fingerprints are still on this team. He just fell into the trap of a newer GM/every GM issue which is he fell in love with some of his owns players and he wasn’t willing to make the moves until it was too late. I mean he was the one who drafted Knies and Woll, traded for McCabe, I think he brought in Jarnkork but that could have been Tree. He also vehemently stuck to the core 4, especially Styles. Tree deserves a lot of credit here though too, tanev and Carlo are excellent moves and he as well stuck to the core 4.
I think Berube has done excellent and the issue for both Dubas and Tree were believing in Keefe longer than they should have however Tree likely made the pro GM move of keeping him around as an easy “pass” last year.
AaronAll over? The D core, starting goalie, attitude and bottom 6 have pretty much all changed. Leafs werent going anywhere with him and his boy Keefe. In fact, I believe Dubas would have most likely traded willy for E Karlsson had he been allowed to stick around (that was the rumour). I liked Dubas, he made some good trades, but this years leafs success has nothing to do with him.
Now the leafs could still choke it away, but they look like a much different team-

FiftyThis.
Also, I like Berube’s patience with the lines and players. Keefe would have been mixing up the lines non stop and I dont think we would have seen patches back in just yet.
Now, dont want to get ahead of ourselves….leafs still have a ways to go to close out the series.
Hope it keeps going. Lets go Leafs!!!(But the changes are night and day for the most part)

~ Atomic WedgieI’ve mentioned that I’ve been watching the playoffs with a few friends, but one is an Oilers fan and the other is a Jets fan – the last time all three of our teams were in the 2nd round together? Also 1987. I was 17, the Jets fan was 20 and the Oilers fan was 10.
