Great deal.
No need for anyone to be sad.
He will outperform the $4.3m the first two years after…doesnt matter.Great deal.

There isn’t much in UFA C this year.June 27, 2025 at 8:16 pm #12643Aaron

Everyone should be happy. He was arguably the “biggest” free agent center this off season and he signed for less than Nelson or Duchene.

ParticipantThere is nothing to be unhappy about. This is the absolute best case scenario.
Giving the “C” back will be interesting! •͜•

ParticipantTavares is a fantastically nice person but he can jam his jamjams up his ass as a player because he’s part of the playoff loser problem in Toronto.
Defensively inept, old, slow and garbage playoff performer, part of the loser DNA that this idiot management can’t rid itself of. And, as usual, the Leaf lemmings love it.
His discount is nice but ultimately irrelevant because he won’t help this team win where or when it matters. He sucked balls against Florida and he will continue to suck balls against Florida as he gets even older, slower and worse defensively. He already proved he can’t handle the top-six role at either end of the ice and if he’s expected to play a 3rd line role, he can’t shut anybody down either. He’s useless. People think they’re getting a discount but he’s actually overpaid by double what he’s actually worth. He should be on 1 year, 2 million (or less) deals at this point in his career based on his playoff disappearance vs Florida.
The only reason this lights up the eyes of fans is because they are vicariously living out a fantasy of “playing for the home town team for less money”.
The same idiots who ran a younger, better player out of town because they incorrectly believe he’s “only a regular season player” are now cheering for an older, inferior, regular season player because he took a “discount”. And what will the Leafs do with those cap savings? Continue to sign more UFAs who won’t do a damn thing when it matters.
What’s funny however is that his “discount” is so significant in comparison to his last contract (where he was wildly overpaid and Leafs fans didn’t care because they were convinced he’d have won multiple Cups by the end of his contract), if Marner signed for 14 AAV, the Leafs would get both players back for less (18.34 AAV) than they paid them last year (21.93 AAV) but they still won’t do it because “saving cap space” to sign other inferior players is more paramount to the mediocrity of this franchise.

Participantlumping Marner with JT contract to make it look better is amazing. The entire discount is from JT, so that makes marner look better. thats so on brand fur dummies

So true.
just over $4m for a player that didnt play on the top line with a top center or marner and was still just under a ppg (0.9866) for the reg season and 0.53ppg in the playoffs is a pretty good deal. You werent going to get any player like that for that cost on the open market.
Only an idiot would hate it.July 7, 2025 at 10:39 am #15260Cush29
