KeymasterI think it depends on Danny’s risk tolerance level… for example, Anderson is a quality goalie but has annual injury issues.

ParticipantThere is no way they can run it back with what they have in house. They have 20 other players they need to consider. At what point will those players get pissed off and maybe want to leave or no re-sign.
This is the 3rd off season for Briere. They will try very hard to sign/trade for the big name players.
Korpisalo is someone I can see them looking at.

InactiveThe podcast seemed to insinuate that Jeremy Swayman could be a trade target.

ParticipantSwayman seems in play but why trade for something you can sign free as a UFA?
“In what is a tale as old as the franchise, the Philadelphia Flyers had a goaltending issue during the 2024-25 season. A major goaltending issue.”
This article got that right.

InactiveBecause Swayman signed an 8 year deal for 8.25aav. That is why they would have to trade for him.

What are you offering the Bruins to get Swayman? A UFA signing looks like a simpler fix to me.

InactiveIm not offering anything for Swayman because I want nothing to do with that cap hit or term. As I said, I was just relaying what was said on this sites podcast. Trading for Swayman makes zero sense to me.

ParticipantTrading for Swayman’s huge contract is exactly what Jonesy said he doesn’t want when he started the Pres job, an expensive goalie. You can get a Cup winning goalie for a mid-tier deal; like Kuemper, Hill, or Thompson.
Also, my Devils friend said he wants to keep Allen because Markstrom sucked most of the year, so I’m not sure he’ll make it to FA. If he does, I’d prefer Allen, or I’d go Lyon, Samsonov, Husso, or trade for Primeau because the creases in MTL and Laval are overflowing-

ParticipantMarkstrom was pretty amazing vs. Carolina in that first OT in the elimination game. Best period of goaltending I’ve seen in a while. Of course, it’s only one period. I’m sure NJ would like to keep Allen, but the Flyers can offer more starts. With a solid base and incentives for starts, I think they could make Allen a nice offer if they targeted him.

ParticipantIf Swayman has a NTC it is a moot point as he aint waiving to come to this clown show. Boston is also not going to tear it down after 1 odd year with several key injuries.

ParticipantJust saying there are a lot of things to iron on this forum, it’s kind of wonky, as i use it more i will share but maybe there should be a place to share these things.
That said bjarnsson could be something but i think all eyes are on zavagrin. He needs a few more years but seems stellar so we need a stopgap goalie. I feel it can be someone older and solid. But there arent many, plenty of older backups that could fill the bill. Errs deserves more time but fedo doesnt. Let him go phantoms in 2025 and earn his 3,25 mil. He deserves it I will never regret it as a human he got screwed and I love him. we just need someone better than errs to take primary and let him be the backup to really vet him. .

ParticipantIf it’s UFA only then probably Allen or Lyon. But I think they could try to get a guy with 1-2 years left on his contract via trade. Stolarz and Demko could be available.

ParticipantBill do you:
1. See both Fedotov and Kolosov back in the orginization next season? what is the possibility both are not back?
2. LHV question, do you see Parker Gahagen and Makiniemi both back in Lehigh to work with Carson? OR just one or perhaps neither.
3. What goalie at the NHL level do you see the flyers pursuing? Throw out some names.

ParticipantImagine if they had kept Stolarz?
I mean it’s not as big of a deal right now as somehow Pickard and Skinner are playing well, but I’ve been thinking the same thing every since we let him walk
Then again he really hasn’t ever played a starters role to its fullest.

ParticipantI have a feeling they end up trading for John Gibson. Two years left on contract @ 6.4 million. Gibson’s game played starting from last season to previous years- 29, 46, 53, 56. Ersson’s contract is up after next season. I will add I highly doubt Fedotov will be on the roster. Possible to get the Petersen treatment and buried in the AHL if he really wants to stay in North America.

I would think the ducks would accommodate and not send him to a team he didnt want to go to.

I just posted that to say that I guess the Flyers could be one of those teams. BUt if he is guaranteed a starting role etc maybe he wouldn’t put Philly on the list. That being said, I wouldn’t want to trade for him.

No doubt Verbeek will abide by the 10 team list. After that, it is try to get the best deal possible for his team. Dostall is an RFA. who played in 54 games. As of now, I would assume Dostall is the #1 goalie in ANA. From Gibson’s perspective, getting out of ANA might be something he looks forward to for a variety of reasons. First, he has been there his entire career. A change of scenery might be appealing. Being traded to a Metro team has a lot of travel advantages staying with a team in the Pacific Division. I do not think it is a stretch to believe the Eastern Conference is not as strong as the Western Conference for a team to make the playoffs. Finally, Gibson is from Pittsburgh so a chance to live on the East Coast might be appealing. The Flyers might have the inside track to acquire Gibson simply because they have the ability to take on his entire contract without ANA retaining. I just doubt the organization stands pat in goal and the UFA market is really slim.

ParticipantWhat I meant was if the flyers were not one of the 10, they would ask him first not just trade him.
IMO gibson wants a shot at a cup or a minimum the playoffs. cant see him or any vet with some control wanting philly in the last few years of their contract. assuming they are interested in winning.
I know Bill said no way, though it would not shock me to see the flyers pursue CC. Overpay on a 2 year deal.

I get that. Gibson has been there a long time. I do not think the would just trade him without talking to hi first. Goalies know the flyers a perceived goalie graveyard. dont see a guy like him choosing the flyers. if he was a free agent with not many good offers, then my opinion would change.

Not going to happen. The hiring of Rick Tocchet screams playoffs or bust. I would expect Briere to be active this offseason, for better or worse.

KeymasterThey aren’t think playoffs or bust in 2o25-26. They hope to get a little better next year and a lot better in 2026-27. Will it work? It’s fair to say believe it when you see it. This is now an 11-year-process, and counting. Three different GMS, various coaches, but still, one long cycle with only one playoff series win and a lot of playoff misses. It’s fair to be skeptical until you see results.

ParticipantIt depends on their expectations for next season. Do they want to lay a foundation here through the draft, or do they want to be as competitive as they can come hell or high water?

I just don’t see that happening, unless they get extremely luck and win the lottery, assuming they’re bottom 10 or 11 finish or whatever it is to allow them to move up enough spots.
