ParticipantMorgan Rielly is going to be wearing a Leaf sweater for three more years, and the sooner we all accept that the better off we’ll be. Whipper
If he chooses to go it wouldn’t be for spare parts. He still would get a reasonable return. He’s an “offensive” dman with 3 years signed for fair value. A team out there would take him as a way to hope he pushes them to the playoffs.
The biggest part of the panthers success is that their bottom 6 contributes on the scoresheet…..the leafs bottom 6 really dont that much. – Fakey
For whatever reason all the depth scoring dried up beyond round 1 pretty much. However, I thought Tree was “masterful” in changing this part of the roster? ( You didn’t say that. I am just stating how others believe it was the best)
My opinion is it’s shuffling deck chairs and sometimes it works out and sometimes it doesn’t.
Anyway, same as all the other times. I rather have the last 9 years than the previous 9 years of futility before it. Playoffs are way more fun than being bottom feeders.

ParticipantIt’s probably career suicide but if I was Marner I would take a 1 year deal with the leafs for the same money. Show the leaf fans you can play ball and not demand the most money. It will probably help his mental struggles as well.
Then next year be better in the playoffs and take your big contract. It might help the future ticket if he can perform well. – Bryant
I dont think it’s career suicide. Guy put up a 100 points. If he gets close to it again then I am sure there’s a team out there willing to pay him a fortune for that kind of production. There’s a lot of teams who would trade for the leafs season this year… some owners definitely want those playoff gates. So I agree! Marner for 10 million. 1 year.

ParticipantMarner must stay. You can’t lose your leading scorer for nothing. There is nobody available to replace him that will actually sign here for less money and more impact
Well no. He isn’t a “must” stay. Reason? He doesn’t have a contract and doesn’t have to be signed. Leafs will suit up a roster and win some games regardless if Marner is on that roster.
Aaron
ParticipantGarbage team.
Bye shanny
Bye marner
Fuck off Matthews and morgan – FaksieWhy do people say to get rid of Matthews? I bet you’d take McKinnon on your team though right? The guy has gotten out of the second round ONCE in his career and that was when he won a cup.
He also made the playoffs once in his first 4 years. Has been to the second round more than Matthews though. Regardless the point is, you don’t throw the baby out with the bath water. Keep the top centerman.
Aaron
ParticipantCalled it.
Congrats for picking the easiest thing to call. Calling the field is like betting that your neighbour isn’t going to win the lottery and then saying how smart you are when they didn’t win the lottery.
31 teams lose a year. Easiest thing to do.
Regardless, changes be coming. I don’t see how you get the same result with two GMs, two coaches, deck chair shuffling, goalie shuffling and not fire Shanny or make a big change.

I believe this is why Woll didn’t get the start against the Sens. Just isn’t quite dialed into those details.
Aaron
ParticipantThey will be zeros lol. TO answer Cush’s original question.
Was a fun ride. Things to look at that were positive. Not enough though and didn’t get it done…in terrible fashion. Time to see what changes come.

ParticipantLooking at game 7, know that we can eliminate the Stanly Cup Champions, on home ice. It’s why Berube pushed them so hard during the last week of the schedule. Getting home ice and having the ability to have last change is crucial. Keefe never understood this and rested players, down the stretch. It’s why we ended up with a game 7 in Boston last season. If we prevail, it will be a major step forward. To play Carolina with Home Ice would be an opportunity to make it to the finals. I’ll go out on a limb here and say Dallas will defeat Winnipeg and if so, the Leafs have Home Ice for the rest of the playoffs. Doesn’t sound like a big deal, but the games will be closer and small variances like penalty killing and powerplays will become magnified. Just score one more goal than Florida, tomorrow night, and it’ll be go time! – Prince of L’s
Do you remember after the two losses to Ottawa you came and asked me “do I really think this team has the ability to go on a run?” I said yes and the reason you asked is because they were up 3 – 2 in the series but you were already making off season changes. Now they have the chance to put away the current champs on home ice.
It’s funny how leaf fans change on a whim. From thinking they are trash and can’t win a series against Ottawa to looking at home ice for the entire rest of the playoffs.
Game 7 is huge though. No doubt. Not easy. Not given to them but they have a “coin flip” of a chance to write a new story for themselves.
Aaron
Participanthat wasnt directed at fifty, just a vent in general.
Leafs played well last night, Woll was great from what I saw.
But they need to do it again…..and probably again a few more times (other series obviously). As I’ve said before Marner and Matthews have a chance to change their narrative Sunday and beyond (if they make it).
Almost every year, some team beats the former champs…leafs need to be the team this year. – FakeyOh then you’re right. Sure they won last night but nothing changes if they lose (no matter how they lose in game 7). Sure I wouldn’t be “upset” at the game specifically if it was a 1 goal loss in 2nd OT. But it wouldn’t stop me from moving Marner, Firing Shanny, etc. Whatever other major changes need to be done.
Aaron
ParticipantI think the important parts the leafs should take away from last night were that they were able to play a close checking game, shut down Florida PP and all their offense.
We can shit on the leafs all we want but they have done a good job of shutting down their top guys for the most part this series.
Aaron
ParticipantNo, game 7 isnt good enough with this team.
Its deep in round 3 or 4 or its just anorher wasted year.
Im tired of the excuses and fans being happy with this team simply showing up for certain games. Its been 9 years, time to win several rounds. Enough with the 1st/2nd round participation ribbons. Beat a good team, every year its “tampas too good, bostons too good, Florida is too good”. Time for the leafs to be too good – FaksieI think Fifty meant that we’d all take a game 7 against Florida in this series. The current champs. I don’t think he meant it was good enough or that if they lose he’s okay with it or that fans should be okay with it. Just that if at the start of the series someone guaranteed a game 7 and you never saw the other games, he’d take it which is a pretty good opportunity for the leafs to move forward.
Again, I think he wasn’t giving a participation ribbon for anything just talking about this series only.
Aaron
ParticipantMost everyone, except like me and maybe Zezel, predicted 7 games so par for the course so far!

You’re 50% right so far. Glad I simply outright called it.
I’ll be back Sunday night too after the Leafs win it.
Aaron
ParticipantWelcome back Aaron. 👍 – 50
I saw your last post in the game 5 blog. You’re right, Marner doesn’t get it. I mean if he wants to say “just move on, you’re human.” keep it in the locker room and not in your interview.
Aaron
ParticipantAn impressive performance…..now they need to play that way on Sunday. – Mikey Ehhhhhh
For sure! I feel game 5 was just sort of wasted. No reason to play within their heads as they did. They can play with the best of them.
Berube has been great on his choices this playoffs. Keeping Patches in round 1 after the 2 losses. Sticking to his top line tonight.
