I can almost guarantee MLSE will not allow a tear down followed by a rebuild starting now. They are gonna milk this ca$chow as long as possible as usual.
As usual they will try to Bandaid this thing, and they will fail. Pelley has the option of firing Treliving. But if the next GM is told not to rebuild, they will know this is doomed to fail. Too many holes, too many needs, not enough assets. What credible GM is going to want to take on a plan doomed to fail, only have to admit failure and rebuild in a year or two?
My best guess is Tree will be back. Because this is the Leafs, after all, and they will do the exact opposite of what they should do.

Even Tkachuk needs some off time from the hockey. Sure they are great team, but nothing is going to happen this season in my opinion.The two weeks off only benefits them get healthier and rested. Barkov is out right now however he might return soon. The Olympic schedule was still a rest for their Olympians compared to the regular schedule with less games, more down time and less ice time.
Of all the teams the Panthers are chasing, they have the easiest schedule. Boston has the most difficult. I don’t see them winning a Cup, but I’d give them at least a 50% chance of making the playoffs. They are chasing Buffalo and Boston, two teams they can beat down the stretch.

If it were anybody else, like the Leafs, I’d say the Panthers are done for, but this team isn’t your average team.
The core guys of this team were the same guys that manufactured a late season surge that saw them make the playoffs 3 years ago and went all the way to the Cup Finals. That team lost in the Final that year but they came back even stronger to be the back to back, defending Cup Champions who beat McDavid twice.
That team has proven time and time again that they will not quit, they will not give up. They are just now getting healthy and basically had almost two weeks off. Their star players are either Gold or Silver medalists and their goalie wasn’t allowed to participate so I’d wager he absolutely has something to prove.
Tampa Bay is definitely the front runner in the East but this Panther team can’t be counted out until it’s proven otherwise.
