Participantjfc Mitch just shrivels up. cant have it both ways, want to be paid like the best of the best, but you have to help (lead) the team to success. softie passenger once the series gets tougher – senstrolltwo
I mean NONE of those stats are good enough from any of the core really and we all know what the results have been but Marner’s just jump out so much more.
Cush29
ParticipantThe Core Four in Games 5, 6, and 7 from 2019-2025
Nylander – 20 Games Played, 8 Goals, and 8 Assists
Matthews – 18 Games Played, 8 Goals and 4 Assists
Tavares – 17 Games Played, 5 Goals and 5 Assists
Marner – 20 Games Played, 0 Goals, and 7 AssistsCush29
ParticipantSo JT scored as many goals by himself vs Florida than Marner and Matthews combined but he’s trash apparently?
Fascinating!
Oh and a reminder to some, the back to back Cup Champs didn’t have a single player anywhere near 100 points nor even 50 goals for that matter.
IN fact the Panthers didn’t have a single player who scored even 40 goals (highest was Reinhart at 39 goals) nor anyone near 100 points (again Reinhart with 81 points led the team).
After Reinhart the next highest goal scorer was Sam Bennett with 25 goals.

The crying and whining about the Leafs being doomed because they are “losing a 100 point player for nothing” is just chicken little talk.
Beyond that what exactly are the Leafs supposed to do when the player and his agent flat out say they don’t want to negotiate during the season and then go radio silent when the Leafs season ends?
To me the narrative isn’t that the Leafs are “letting him go for nothing” (we know they tried to trade him once for sure and he nixed that deal), it’s Mitch walking away and jamming it to this team and fanbase – again. Sure he is exercising his right and that’s fine but to position him as the victim in all this and the Leafs and the fanbase as the bad guys is just a joke.
Teams that build a balanced roster, get good to great goaltending, have a good system and stick to that system have success in today’s NHL. Loading up on offense doesn’t work – the Oilers have proven it twice in the cup finals now and the Leafs for several years in rounds 1 and once in a while 2.
Bye Mitch and good luck wherever you end up but this is the start of Tre having the flexibility of 13-14 M in cap space to really start to fix what is wrong here, I hope he can & getting JT to come back and finish his career as a Leaf at a team friendly price would be a great start.

ParticipantSo Treliving is gonna call Pat Morris on the 1st? – Dozzer
1. Nice to see you back!
2. If that’s Perry’s agent than I hope not!Cush29

ParticipantWatch the Leafs sign Marchand and Tavares for 3yrs @ 6.5M cap hit – Dmnted
I don’t want Marchand as a Leaf ever because I have zero respect for him. I also would prefer they find the next Bennett / Marchand if they can vs grabbing one with an expiry date that is VERY soon IMO (Marchand) BUT re-upping JT and getting Marchand combined for close to or even less than Marner will get elsewhere would be a bit funny.
I am now reading and hearing non-stop that Marner’s camp outright refused to engage in conversations all season about an extension and same after the playoffs ended.
If true it sounds like Marner’s camp decided they weren’t coming back regardless and who knows when they made that decision (if true) but there is so much talk it’s hard to sift through what is the truth is and what’s just fabricated BS.
One day a long time from now I’m sure it will come out – much like Cujo expressed his regret for leaving Toronto to go to Detroit in his book & in interviews since then.

ParticipantGood to see I’m still living rent free in the pea brain of the guy who is here using someone else’s username from HB while proclaiming on HB he isn’t in here.
Cush29
ParticipantI’ll stick with him ending up in San Jose.
Dark horse pick. 🙂

ParticipantPer Andy Strickland, Marner is officially out. Let the healing begin. – MVP Whipper
You spelt let the changing of the DNA begin wrong……lol
Most felt like this would happen but it’s the Leafs so the possibility that they would just overpay to match anyone was always a reality.
It’s going to be interesting to see how it plays out. The trolls now have a new shiny thing to cling to and spew out every season the Leafs don’t go 82-0 with Matthews scoring 80 goals and them having a 100% PK on route to a 16 and 0 record in the playoffs to their cup win.
Cush29
ParticipantI’m thinking the same thing Mike.
One poster will CONTUNE TO loose his pOop over it.Fixed that for you. lol
Cush29
ParticipantThe boys are already back to work at the training facility.
Except this weekend of course, where they will get stupidly drunk during the Grand Prix.
Suuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuure they are hard at work at the ‘training facility’ if that place is a nice patio in Montreal and back to work = 12 oz curls.
I’ve been in Montreal in the summer time……the only thing working hard is guys eyes and necks with the warm weather and sundresses a plenty!

ParticipantThe deal for Tavares will likely be a front-loaded six year deal like Tanev’s, expect $5 to 5.5m AAV – Mike Augello
I could live with that but I’d prefer it to be 5 or less.
Cush29
ParticipantAwwwwwwwwww shit that sucks. I was hoping to hear him back on TV at some point.
You’re right he is the GOAT as it relates to Leafs commentators.
Cush29
ParticipantAt least the Bennett to Toronto talk will die down now. We knew that shit wasn’t gonna happen.- PDO Speedwagon
Agreed and good.
Now I just need Marchand to sign somewhere else so that talk of him coming to the Leafs can die too.
I also think JT needs to take 5M per or less or the Leafs should wish him well with his next team.
I can’t wait until the drama around Marner, JT, Marchand and Bennett is done.
I mean as Leaf fans we are all tired of some of the talk, I am guessing fans of other teams are ready to drive a rusty nail into their ears because they have to keep hearing it.
I refuse to get too high or too low based on what the Leafs do this offseason. I’m at the point where I’d be fine if they took a step back for a season to really try and fix the salary cap distribution issue they face to get that balanced roster that elite teams have and is proven to be needed to go deep in the playoffs.
Agreeing to pay a winger over 13M per year on a long term deal when you have one at 11M already and a centre with a 13.25M cap hit and an underperforming dman who you most likely can’t move making 7.5M isn’t the way to try and fix this problem. Even if your gaining back cap space of the half or more of the 11M they paid to JT this past season.
