Oilers fans convinced their team is leaps and bounds better than the Leafs and have been for years is funny to me. They play in arguably the weakest division in the league and we are seeing it yet again. Imagine if they played in they and the Leafs had flipped divisions years ago? Would we have seen them make 2 cup finals and the Leafs lack of playoff success been the same or might the Leafs have been the ones to have gone on deep playoff runs and the Oilers to have been the ones to have struggled to make it into the 2nd round year over year?
We will never know but you can’t gloss over the fact playing in a weaker division is a huge advantage.

Leafs video review team put forth the best performance of anyone on the team last night. Sadly that’s not gong to win you many games, lol.
That being said for those who like to look forward all is not lost, teams have missed the playoffs and come back to win the cup the following year.
Most recently Vegas (missed in 2022 and won the Cup in 2023) and St. Louis (missed in 2018 and won in 2019 (after having a terrible first half of the season).
There are some other notables like Carolina 2004 miss, 2005 cancelled season 2006 Cup, Rangers 93/94 and Pens 90/91 (and another cup in 92), Habs 70/71
It’s not impossible & I don’t subscribe to the blow it up / burn it to the ground and start again theory.

I guess the whole narrative about him being Canda’s hero was pure and utter bullshit from losers who simply refuse to acknowledge that Marner isn’t the 2nd coming of Christ on skates.
Most of us were not surprised Marner was a no-show, this is who he is more often than not when the pressure gets heavy and the game does too.
The game was fast and physical & he became the wallflower that he is when the game gets that way.
And to those it applies to you can fuck all the way off with the constant whataboutisms regardless of it’s about the Leafs or Team Canada.
Nobody has shit the bed like Marner when it’s games 5,6 or 7 in a playoff series for nearly a decade when you factor in what he was paid to do by the Leafs vs what he did (or didn’t) do. Now we can add in Gold Medal game – great.
Others have failed miserably from the Leafs core (and from Team Canada) it’s factual and 99% of the Leaf fanbase knows it but nobody to the degree that greedy Mitch did over and over and over again.
Maybe that will change in Vegas, maybe not but let’s also not forget Marner was offered a contract to stay in Toronto and left on his own.
The constant cope claim that Marner left because the big bad media or fans were mean to him is pathetic. IF that’s the case he needs to grow the fuck up, that excuse is almost worse than just wanting to go try playing somewhere new & would make him soft as baby shit on AND OFF the ice.
I’d rather the Leafs miss the playoffs this year and do a re-jig for next year vs have made the playoffs and then got bounced in the 1st round again due to the same soft core led by a few including Marner. Someone had to go – Marner decided on his own it would be him after he veto’d the trade to the Canes it is what it is.
Most sane people knew this year would be a step back for the Leafs, it’s been worse than most predicted as have the Leafs injuries including losing huge chunks of their D core for long periods of time as well as one of their top 2 goalies for long chunks of time.
Game night and I will be cheering for a big Leaf win and a step towards making the playoffs.
