ParticipantA 2nd round pick is not a bad price but 4.775 AAV is a waste of money for 10 goals and 25 points. It also means his QO for next year will be over 5 million. If he has a shit season, you either qualify him to a gross overpayment or you lose him for nothing. The Leafs could potentially get a better player for a lower cap hit for a 2nd round pick and nearly 5 million in cap space in the UFA market. Hayton isn’t that good. The Leafs entire bottom-six is filled with guys who score 10 or less goals getting paid double what they’re worth. The only benefit would be that Hayton is at least young but overall, he’s been a bust for a top 5 pick that of course Chayka made the mistake of drafting that high.
he also had in the previous two season 19 and 20 goals and 42 and 45 pts.
4.775 AAV is the upper limit for compensation and it’s for 1 year and then, he’s a UFA. If Utah matches, they cannot trade him for a year.
It’s a little on the high side but not by much. Teams need to be above the cap floor after all.dmnted
ParticipantBarrett Hayton offer sheet (4.775M 1 year deal) by NJD has been signed.
No one is really talking about this one.
compensation would be a 2nd rnd pck from NJD.I was hoping the Leafs would go after him.

ParticipantCould Giroux become a member of this Leafs team?
Someone would need to be shipped out if he did sign with the Leafs.-

ParticipantSorry if you find reality scary but welcome to the world of entertainment athlete contracts.
At this rate, Matthews will cost the Leafs 20 AAV on his next contract.
nah, it’s a bunch of what if …….

ParticipantFlyers trying to steal the title of stupidest contract in the NHL offering Leo Carlsson 18 million AAV over 5 years. They’d have to give up four 1st round picks too.
Absolutely retarded. If that ends up happening, kiss Matthews goodbye. He’ll command 20 million by time he’s an UFA.
you’re such a fear mongerer

ParticipantThe Rielly soap opera is getting annoying. The Leafs are slightly over the Cap, but moving Rielly would alleviate that problem. It still would leave them about $7M under the Cap. The Leafs should call it a day on the trade front, unless there’s an opportunity to move Rielly for a 2nd rounder somewhere. Still, the defense is vulnerable. One key injury and it falls apart.
and they still need to sign McKenna to an ELC which is going to be 1M+ per year on a 3 yr contract

ParticipantWill the Leafs sign McKenna or send him back to college?
I guess training camp will tell.oh he will sign and play with the Leafs. when was the last #1 pick to not immediately play in the NHL?
didn’t the Habs do something like that with Slafkovsky?
